sry I'm ignorant when it comes to British politics.. But does the royal family get money from taxpayers? Don't they own stuff that generates them enough income to not need taxpayers money?
I would think at least having a royal family would cost less for tax payers than a normal president...

Britain spends ~ £40million a year on the royal family not including the private security provided by the police force and the army. They own extensive lands and property; the Prince of Wales inherits the Duchy of Cornwall i think. The queen is like the 40th most powerful person on the planet. The Spanish royal family scrape by on 1/5th the money of the British per year.

Not opposed to everyone getting a day off and i think (hope) for most people it was just an excuse to get pissed rather than misplaced patriotism, kind of like christmas or the new year.

Any balance here? What income do the Royalty generate? I'm guessing, but aren't the monarchy responsible for generating a substantial proportion of British wealth by centuries of conquest? Where's the gratitude? (NB opinion expressed herein *MAY* be taking the piss).

Slightly more seriously, my understanding was the costs to the taxpayer was in the form of security/police force of 5k coppers and the like - at a more expensive than normal cost due to penal rates stemming from the public holiday. Given the massive amount of global focus on London/UK, on the surface it seems like it could be a reasonable trade off.

Got to say though that not continuing her previous love of see through dresses was a mistake though. :f_eek:

In the immortal words of Richard Curtis, as expressed in the inimitable style of Hugh Grant "You know, there's nothing more off-putting in a wedding than a priest with an enormous erection" :f_eek:

they get an allowance yearly, but the Queen always gives it back. Of course this doesn't include all the other costs that are incurred when they perform their "Royal Duties"

id rather the government spend money on something that brings everyone together and creates good atmosphere for everyone than spending it all on pointless wars that do nothing but create more problems...

kate is absolutely gorgeous hes a fkin lucky man, gonna be hard for anyone to compete with the future King.

ultimately this family is probably the most powerful family in the world, if they want a huge wedding, they'll get a huge wedding...

Damn, royal wedding even here? I wanted to watch news that day in order to know what's going on in the world and those #$%#%s killed 20(!) minutes of news with this nonsense. Great to know that xyz has designed the wedding dress... very useful information, almost as useful as the information, that Mike Tyson owns a TV show about pidgeons _evil:

you mean they have to surveve on only 8M a year? however do they manage

Not to mention the money generated by tourists coming to see buckingham palace, and the other parts of london too.

And like someone else said, much rather money goes on this which brings most of the country together as a whole.

I've watched it.. It's actualy not that bad.. But maybe that's more due to the fact i love boxing and have a lot of respect for him and his winner mindset and the fact it was like 2-3 am

Ok guys, there has already been a lot of suggestive content which we've let go, but let's try to keep it moderately clean shall we?

Remember it's a public forum.

Many thanks in advance,

Bart
