Addicted, obsessed, commited, devoted. What ever word you want to use to make it sound better or worse, i'm all of them! I live for this sh!t baby, without poker, i'd be like a Clown without a Circus.
Oh yes and it has caused me a little trouble at work, my bosses can't stand the fact that i can make more $$$ in a weekend grinding the live tables for 20-30 hrs, than i get paid for in a whole weeks 40 hrs of work. Therefore, my dedication is to poker and not my day job as its more beneficial to my wallet, body, health, mind and soul ( as well as being a billion times more enjoyable), oh and how they really really hate this ( yes i am hoping to be sacked so as i can start playing full time whilst receiving goverment benefits ♦
).
I'm dependent on poker in some ways, but I wouldn't call it addicted. You can't really have an addiction to a non-physical substance anyway (which is why the various disorders are called "problem shopping," "problem gambling," etc.).
The key to these concepts is the word "problem." If poker causes problems in other parts of your life then something might be done about it. Otherwise it's just something you do, same as another person might spend 30 hours a week doing woodworking.
The OP has an interesting situation. His wife filed for divorce, which most people would consider a problem, but he doesn't seem to be too unhappy about it, so I can't say whether it's a problem for him or not. (Unless the OP was trolling, which is also a possibility.)

Gambling is an addiction because it creates certain chemicals in the brain and people enjoy the feelings and emotions associated with it. You are still getting addicted to brain chemicals just like any drug.
(This is why certain kinds of games like online FPS and MMOs are so addictive as well.)
You can find this definition echoed on Wikipedia where there are several references given for it:

Also, lolz at us always getting into semantic discussions. ♦

I rarely play even t en hours a week. I get kinda bored, but when I get proper money from it, it might change.
I would like to be addicted to poker and make good moneyz. But I can't for now, I finally have a non freelance job, in an office, but the hell I get so tired of it, and just just have no more energy to study poker, probably because I am not used to work for other people. I hope after some time I will get used to it and know how to not feel so exhausted during workday so I will be able to get back to studying and playing poker
Not addicted at all to poker but I do like the money.
I am, however, addicted to breathing I think. I tried giving it up once, jeez, I went purple and choked and everything; just had to have another breath in the end.
Ow yes I'm definitely addicted to poker. But If I want to do something else like work on my music then sometimes I just don't play for like 3 days or something.
(yes 3 days without poker is alot for me I just realized xD)
I wish I was addicted to poker and the wife said "me or poker". My girlfriend would love it when I say "I´am moving in". Makes everything so much simpler.
You are addicted at least a bit if you have gold status or better ♦
Not to mention Black Members ![]()
be serious: you are addicted if you have a bad session and keep playing, loosing nearly all of your bankroll.

I don't need poker to support my missus, I need scaffolding.
