asked mod to delete the blog,
#Salivanth u have my skype in case u want to discuss hands or want some tips about how to go broke :P LMAO ahaha

hi ronuble,

wow! cant believe i totally missed your blog and that we have another female player around! cool to have you with us :) interesting blog. why in the world would you wanna delete it?

you are just at the start of your journey. and you never know when you might want to look back :) and you never know who might stumble on your blog one day and offer helpful insights or even just friendship.

i know getting a run of bad luck can be really hard. i'm in the same spot myself. dont focus on what you've lost. instead, start working with what you have now. i think these would really help you - reading "the poker mindset" and watching the vid "eightfold path to poker enlightenment" by tommy angelo.

i dont really play mtt's myself. but i think that's where you will need the strongest mindset since it has the most brutal swings of variance. if you are looking for a friend to improve with, have you checked out other mtt blogs? YinYang's blog is one that comes to mind at the moment.

hope you stick around with us. :)

smiles,
wendy

Yeah, Poker, especially MTT's, can be really, really swingy. For some evidence of that, here's my current graph, and that's just SNG's, over 465 tournies:

I haven't had the same losses you did, but I've been under EV for 300 tournaments and had a 280-tournament break-even stretch. Such things don't mean I'm a bad player, and it doesn't mean you're a bad player. If you're practicing the right BRM and playing on +EV games, variance is bad, but not career-threatening.

Now to move on from the stuff you probably already know. Poker is tough, but the very FIRST time something like this happens is when someone gets tested. You had a great streak, then a really bad streak, that happens. To quote someone from the 2+2 forums, whose name I unfortunately forget:

"Everyone will eventually run worse than they ever thought possible. The difference between a winning player and a losing player is how they deal with it."

If you can get through this, you'll be far stronger for it, and you'll deal with the next one a lot easier. Such is the life of an MTT player: Your kind are cursed with the greatest variance of all. You're also blessed with it: Who doesn't dream of shipping a big MTT, no matter what the buyin they can play is?

If I can catch you on Skype, I'll gladly help you, but I'll add this: I'm not gonna try and make myself out to be some perfect Zen master who can lose a thousand buy-ins and not blink an eye. I'm not, and nobody is, and most importantly: You cannot be expected to be. Feeling like shit after stuff like this is totally normal. What's important is that you pick yourself back up again. If you REALLY want to quit, wait a week and then decide, when you aren't still stinging from the losses.

Also, don't worry about paying me if this helps, I'm happy to share what little experience I have.

Hope that I can catch you on Skype,

-Salivanth.

@purple , thansk for passing by.
LOL, i was talking mostly bout cash, but ofc mtt's were bad too . My thing with mtt's is that i feel like "oh, i lost but i can get 20 BIs if i winn the next one" while in cash i feel that when i lose, it will takes days to recover from that BIs :) hehe.
I really can't be thankfull enough for all the guys who are sweating in skype , answering my questions , etc ,right now , jay and the cool group of cash players are being really helpfull in this moment, as they make me realize that it was just a very very sick bad run, not the end of the world. I'm learning a lot, and ofc i was feeling like crap yesterday but im back in the NL2 tables now, as well as in the small MTTs ofc!
Gonna play the micro schd. this saturday, lets hope i can go deep in that tourney and start my Birthday with a good run in a big mtt , hehe.

I was feeling like crap for all the great hands that i lost, and now i realize that in fact i was running hot (hitting str8s, flushes ,sets and full house all the time) but someone was running hotter than me all the time , LOL .:P hahahah i know it sounds weird but its true .
In a normal situation, i would win with sets and FH and that kind of hands, but ofc when this started i was all the time like "can i fold this full house? can i fold this set? can i fold this flush ?" hehe and ofc, that was bad, really bad.
I read the poker mindset a month ago, was really nice, but i have to reaad it again now that i know a bit more about this game and can really understand how sick variance can be , and how hard it is to deal with it. The biggest problem is that when ur a newbie, u blame urself for every lost hand, because u know u make mistakes, so its harder to get trough a bad streak without going insane , but i guess that the pro guys here can go trough a bad streak KNOWING that they are doing everything ok , and its just variance. For someone competitive, thinking that every hand lost is ur mistake can be brutal, and that's what happened to me yesterday.
As a matter of fact, i had some short downswings in the past, but this was just impossible to imagine for me. I never tought that i could lose so many times with so many awesome hands , and that waas really really hard.

Now im in a good place were i realize that shit happends :) and that in those days is better to just go and take a walk with my dog instead of sit here obsessed with the fact that i can't win a hand, reading the forums and be all the time like "what im i doing wrong?" (which is good, but not for someone that thinks about that every single day and just can't stop thinking about each hand lost in weird situations, hands where i made mistakes and hands where i couldn't avoid losing because it was ok to bet/raise/call with that hand)
BTW: Yings blog is really cool, he had a bad streak and i know it, and he had some hard moments with his family but as i told him, he has to move on and keep doing what he likes. He's indeed a very good example of discipline .

Sorry for the wall of text , i just wanted to say thanks and explain what's going on in my head right now :P

BTW , i started with cash coz i have to clear some bonuses, so its easier with cash , with tourneys it could take a lot of time and sick grinding

Everyone I talk to on Skype seems to refer to me later by terms nobody else would know me as. Are you people ashamed of me, or what? Belayd calls me his coach, and then his "coach" when I mentioned I sucked at Poker too much to be a coach, and now you call me by my real name :) Why is it such a secret thing to talk to me over Skype? Does everyone else know something I don't? :P

Glad to help, and "You Suck At Poker" really inspired me too. Twas a great post, really helped me realise that I didn't "deserve" to win at Poker, I really had to work and if I didn't work, downswings were my fault.

Good luck! I wouldn't play NL2 with less than 40 bucks though, at this stage of your career you certainly don't want to go busto!

hi there girl! (i'm not a girl ok?) =)

add me up on skype. i'd be happy to lend you a hand in micro tourneys.

i started there also. =) initially, i busted my first $50 deposit in stars in a month, mainly because i was experimenting. deposited $117 then it never went $110. =)

i started playing the 25cents 90 man. it is at regular speed. yes, it finishes a bit longer but as long as you just play tight, ABC poker, you could easily get in the money often then enjoy moving up the limits soon. =)

good luck and chat with you!
