Choosing the right Poker Room for you!

Next month, I want to start putting all of my poker time in to PLO, and since it's been a little while since I played PLO seriously, I also plan to start at PLO25 and mix in some PLO50 after depositing. Therefore, as part of that, I did a lotttt of research on the best place to play PLO with the perfect winrate - a combination of many factors, not just direct rakeback.

If you're looking to 4table PLO25, I'd suggest William Hill.

As part of the ipoker network, which is characterized by big sports books, the network is generally fishy and of course, when it comes to omaha, fish have the mentality that 'I have 4 cards! How can I lose???' which is generally pretty easy to exploit.

In addition to a great 200% up to $2000 first deposit bonus which adds a decent slice of direct rakeback whilst you're clearing the bonus, you'll also have the William Hill VIP system. Raking $1000/month there will net you something like an additional 38% in rakeback (although it's hard to be completely precise, as this depends on player loyalty, like, the longer you play there and maintain a VIP level, the better it gets).

I can also tell you that, from railing a good friend of mine at PLO100 on ipoker recently, that the players are generally speaking, terrible. If you offered me 100% rakeback on PokerStars or 0% rakeback on William Hill, I'd play on William Hill for sure*, because the additional fishiness of players on ipoker far outweigh the rakeback elements.

*assume I was actually planning to play poker, not just open 690000 tables with 100% rb and fold every hand

Yeah sure that sounds good! Ill get set up for a bit figuring out the software etc but ill give you a shout sometime soon.

In a few weeks (after my exams) I'd like to deposit money on to a site (my 50$ bonus is stuck on FTP and I wasted most of the 50$ partypoker offered as first aid through bad brm), I'm looking to play SH NL5 and move up the limits progressively, grinding 5-10 hours/week depending on how much time I have available.

I noticed you suggested party to several people in my situation but since I've had an account on there for a few months already I think I'm too late to receive a FDB and I was counting on that to help build my bankroll a bit, I love the software on stars but also noted that you've recommended others to stay off of there mostly, is it really that hard to beat even on micro-stakes? I currently play mostly just one table at a time but plan on getting HEM soon (possibly with profit from fdb) and slowly work my way up to 4-6 tables. Which room would be best for my situation considering all these factors? Thanks!

I didn't piss away the first one, it's stuck on ftp, and the other came from partypoker, not ps.com, and since I had to generate 100 party pts within 90 days to be allowed to keep it I moved up limits really quick and ended up losing almost all of it due to some run bad/play bad on NL10.

EDIT: although I suppose that you could argue that choosing FTP as the site to get the free 50$ on counts as pissing it away

Hey Janth88,

I think that Poker770, as part of the ipoker network, is an ideal choice for you and I wouldn't change anything there, for all the reasons I outlined above you in this post.

Why are you looking to change room? Is there any specific reason?

Hey CaptainReivax,

If you already have a PartyPoker account, and would like a first deposit bonus, then look no further than an ipoker room like William Hill.

There's plenty of fish at the micros here and you should find yourself moving up the limits in no time at all, as long as you're studying and working on your game. HEM is a great tool for session reviews in that regard.

Hi Marc: I can't seem to be able to download the William Hill software. My internet is very slow at the moment, and every time I get a few percent in, it resets back to the beginning or shuts down. You also recommended PartyPoker, which I already have the client of. Why did you recommend that site? Was it just because of the software, or does it have fishy opponents like WH as well?

Try shutting down your anti-virus before starting the download. Sometimes the AV flags the poker clients as dangerous and blocks it.

Party isnt as fishy as WH, but the software is better.

Overall I would recommend you try the AntiVirus trick and see if it works, since I think that the opponents being more fishy is more +EV for you in the long run.

I realised yesterday that the bonus that I was running out of time on was a re-load bonus, if I've never made a deposit to Partypoker can I still get a fdb there or did I have to deposit within a set amount of time from the opening of my account? Also, how is the traffic on WH? Would it be possible to 4-table SH NL10 there?

The first deposit bonus for free $50 players has an activation time limit of 60 days, so it looks like you missed out this time.

As far as William Hill goes, you can very comfortably 4table SH NL10, no problems at all!

Party might have been fishy pre UIGEA and iPoker has always been a nitfest. Not much difference between the sites now in terms of skill level.

You think so? I would say that ipoker is considerably fishier, especially at stakes between NL20-NL100 (micros are about as fishy as each other).

Well if up to NL10 is just as fishy as each other, I think I shall play on PartyPoker for now, since I can't get the download to work. Maybe when my internet goes back to it's full speed it will work, but if there's not much difference at the lowest stakes, I don't have to wait 7-8 days to start playing.

Hi all.

Which room should I choose if: i want to play both micro regular speed sng's and cash? Played sng's in full tilt till the end, have some experience in cash, and finally managed to save ~100USD BR. So regular speed sng's, cash, and rakeback deal would be good

merge seems nittier than ipoker from what I can see . esp with more of the american high stakes players choosing to play there.
