I am soooo money-oriented right now. I think it's damaging my game.

Wow I can't believe what I'm going through. I'm down to $140 having peaked at $203.

Lol I'm making such a fuss over this. Granted, I was not prepared to take a dive at that pace but now I hope the lesson was learned. I'm still being sucked out on a lot, which sucks, especially when it costs me to lose heads up.

Today I got angry at 3 outers and in one hand I almost broke my mouse smashing it into the wall. 60 seconds later I was calm, sat back down and continued normal play. It's weird (but good) that I quickly get back to normal however I have to deal with that 60-second madness and avoid breaking anything altogether

Studying took a bit of back seat recently because I was deeply discouraged by my results but I cannot allow this to go on. Bad beats? Fuck ' em. Variance? Fuck it.

Another thing I have learned is that I wasn't putting in enough games. There's a very valid reason why the phrase Volume is key is a cliché - because it's true. Another one is cards have no memory and this is just as important to keep in mind at all times.

One last update is that although I'm still interested in advancing in sit n gos, I'm planning on studying some BSS seriously. It's already in my September goals but as I said, I haven't dedicated enough time for it so far.

So there it is: an update that hopefully marks the beginning of a new ascent - if not in $$ then at least in mindset.

Thanks DrDunne, Akrammon (for a great chat) and the famous :P Roopopper for some needed support. :) Appreciated!

A decent update coming soon! I was away for the weekend and didn't play for 4 days. Anyway I played a little tonight and I think I am improving. More to come :)

Let me tell you something you already know
The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows,
It's a very mean and nasty place
and I don't care how tough you are
it will beat you to your knees
and keep you there permanently if you let it.
You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life.
But it ain't about how hard you hit.
It's about how hard you can get hit
and keep moving forward.

That's how winning is done.

Came across it on facebook, thought I'd share.

That "ain't about how hard you hit" quote is everywhere lately...

Good blog, keep up the good work. In your first post you had some goals set for August that included a lot of studying and reviewing. Did you meet those goals and do you still study and review your hands as much? If the answer's "yes", SNG Wizard will be a good investment. In case you haven't noticed, it's free to use for the first 30 days.

When you're on a "bad run" it's pretty easy to assume that it's just bad luck and not that you've been making bad decisions. Especially when HEM's luck-adjusted winnings line tells you should have been winning. But it's not always the case. After bad beats, I've caught myself becoming impatient (calling allins with hands I normally wouldn't) or disintrested (missing tells, not betting for value when I should), even though at the time I thought I was playing fine. So, even if you're not feeling angry or very sad, doesn't mean you're not on tilt. Getting into a "this just isn't my day but I'll keep on playing anyway" mode is definitely a form of tilt.

And when you're winning, it's even easier to assume you're playing your best, even when you're not. I've never heard anyone say "I've been playing like an idiot but I've had this good run and I just can't lose".

I did meet most of my goals and I still study quite a lot (sometimes more than I play). Instead of reviewing my own hands I read the discussions at the Hand Evaluations' Forum and often post my own.

In regards to your comments about the red line and tilt, I agree. Which is why I have stopped using HEM for a while and I've blocked my stats from sharkscope so I cannot keep looking them up during play. Now I find that I don't care much about either my red line, or my actual results.

I'll buy sng wizard as soon as I can :)

Thanks for stopping by!

That will have to wait another week unfortunately!

My poker room was down all day today so I only played a little tonight and I had to quit cos I tilted bad. It didn't affect my play (except for a couple of raises which would have usually been smaller).

What tilted me was that I absolutely hate being sucked out on heads up and it's happened in (more or less) 60% of the times I got heads up. That's a significant amount when you consider that I got to heads up in about a two thirds of the games in the last 3 days.

Now I cannot know for sure but it feels like I am crushing the $2.75 sngs. Not an impressive feat by all means but it feels good! _grin: I already took some shots at the $5.50 sngs and they're just as easy/difficult to beat so I'm very looking forward to playing those exclusively _evil:

Uni begins this Tuesday so I will have to wait a little and plan out my month to manage my time effectively without neglecting anything!

Bankroll currently at $212.87

So I had a final lap for the end of the month to make sure I get to keep gold. I don't think I played my best but my bankroll somehow made it into its highest yet: $236.37

Now how do I know if I am really crushing this limit? I'm not being that lucky although I am running much better than those days when I couldn't win a chip!

Either way I now have 43 buy-ins for the next limit =) and I'm enjoying this process/journey/learning curve a lot!

As I said in my previous post my priority now is to plan ahead the next month (with uni and all) and organize my time effectively!! Not sure how I'm going to do that yet....

/end of ramblings :]

September wrap up and October goals coming soon! Been tooooo busy with the start of uni!

Now I just need a nap... sweet dreams everyone

September wrap-up: I followed all my goals. I'm gold, I studied and I worked out. Unfortunately I don't have time right now to go through all the BSS articles and play some cash so that will have to be postponed. I'm also trying to find new ways to learn ICM other than the ICM trainer which to me seems quite passive as a way of learning; i.e. with the ICM trainer we're supposed to face thousands of situations so that we learn instinctively what is right and wrong but there's no clear understanding on what and why we are doing what we are doing. It is an important tool but it's probably not enough.

As for October goals I cannot plan too much because this is a chaotic month with the start of uni and all. What I want to achieve is a bankroll that is over $300. I'll play enough on Everest to maintain gold and then I will leave to go to Betfair for their bonus. Everest's loyalty program is fucking miserable and the green software is annoying.

Bankroll atm standing at $230 after 4 bad days but the swings are nothing new I guess. It would be nice to beat the $5.50 sngs this month!
