Both villains sort of regs. I bet the river small as thin value/blocking bet as it's very plausible that UTG has an A in his range here. Sorry for the quick explanation, just waiting for blinds on my tables ♦
I do get the idea behind a blockbet but I don't get it in this case.
With the A+BDF peeling you might not get many calls from worse (e.g., TT, KJ), plus the A is not really in your flop ch/c range (except if they think you call with AK there, some people would), and you def. don't get any folds from better. As for the fixing price part of a blocking bet, huh, ok, if you check UTG might bet $3 instead of your $2, but do you think UTG would bluff a lot in this board vs. 2 villains? What's UTG bluffing range? Because on his range there are all pockets (many with sd value there) + aces. So he might bluff 22-44 but not even many people would (even though maybe they should). So I think in this case if UTG bets you might even fold as he's checking behind lots of his middle pairs and there is not a ton of air in his range (except if he is on the looser side, opening suited connectors from UTG. Not many people do that too).
On the other hand, indeed the A is in the UTG range (that might have cbet that board w/ AQ/AJ/ATs).
If AK might be in your range, it might as well be in SB range (since he is vs. UTG), and he could play it just like that.
As far as I can see, that leaves us with the following options:
- He's not a good reg or is a fish and has no clue;
- He's on a huge slowplay w/ KK or 55 (possible but very unlikely);
- He had AK and hoped for a river bluff from either of you, or a value bet from UTG's AQ/AJ;
- Both your and UTG hands were face-up thanks to your blockbet and his call, making it easy to jam-bluff ($9.25 in the pot already, he jammed $10.43, not bad odds for a bluff at all). The question here is: what the hell did he check/call flop with? Can he turn his 88 into a bluff? A good player vs. a bet and a call should, as the 88 are certainly not good here, but your hand is clearly not strong enough to call a shove - especially on a paired board where he could even have played 77 like that.
I don't know. With other people's money I'd say it's the last option but with my own I'd rarely call that river without any decent history
But anyway, I suck at this game so all I said above is probably crap.
(and in the event that I *do* call, villain would show 77 for sure. And in fact that might be a decent way to play 77 there, even though if he bets $3.5 on that river he would certainly get at least one caller. But this way he made $4 at least instead of the $3.5).
