Was I wrong to think I was ahead when he checked behind on the turn?

This guy seems very tight and doesn't raise often so when he does I think straight away he has a big hand.
Calling with 88 is ok though, I would do the same.
Check call the flop is ok, I would do the same here, we now have an OESD.
When he checks behind on the turn it seems strange, his stats show him as being very aggressive so I would expect him to bet.
I would probably check call the river, I don't want to bet and face a raise here.

I was surprised when I looked what he had (after I went through the hand).
How can he not bet the turn with that board? Crazy.

Well, after him betting pot size on flop then I really doubt that we are ahead with our 88 in this spot vs such a nit. I'd really be inclined to even consider Check/Folding the river since I doubt the guy would ever bet there with worse or turn his hand into bluff.
