Hey everyone,

Since I went to a trip to Budapest this summer I immediately fell in love with the place. Now there's an opportunity to work/study there in a couple of months. I don't want to give up poker though :) So I'm wondering if there are any Hungarians or related people who know something about online poker regulations? It would also be nice to know some people from Pokerstrategy there, if there are any at all at least :)

Thanks!

Try to post to the Hungarian forum, I'm sure you'll get company there, here's a direct link to the corresponding Hungarian Community Board: http://hu.pokerstrategy.com/forum/board.php?boardid=245

Regulation starts at 2012.01.01.
The pokersites have to pay 20% tax after their earnings (rake) from hungarian residents.

Budapest is pretty cool.
I wouldn't say anything sure about the regulation until it's actually done, but hopefully it's going to be one of the better ones in Europe. Although laws and regulations are usually kinda random in hungary, the last poker law regarding live poker was a huge fail, it basically killed legal live poker. the online regulation draft looks pretty sensible.

I'll also leave this here:

About online poker in Hungary: so far it was a huge grey area, basiclly the goverment didn't really cared about it, no real regulations. This year they came up with a law-plan which was than approved by the parliemanet. What i read so far, is mostly about the restrictions how can someone operate online poker in Hungary, not too much about the user side. The main point, the operators has to get a licence approved by the hungarian tax station, if they have it, they can operate poker and horse betting (casino games and sportsbetting was left out from the law, so basiclly it stays grey area). (I assume all bigger sites will get this licence very fast because the hungarian market is really huge.)

I think that not too much to worry for the players to be honest, the goverment just found out its a huge tax revenue opportunity.

Budapest is really beautifull, living is very cheap compared to the Western-Europian countries, you will find trillions of activities, but to be totally honest, i think its not the most ideal for a poker player. (i mean, i dont know how serious you are, if you plan to play live events and so on...for example, if you plan to travel a lot to Europe, the airport is not the best hud with its offer, or lets say, you wont get the best deals there, Vienna is way better in this case).
