He's got a decently high agg fac. and his river aggression is infinite. As the turn was checked through and he checked to me on the river I was going for pure value since it seemed he had nothing that could beat my flush. I would expect any hand he had like 8x or AA would bet the river 100% because after I checked back the turn there's def no guarantee I will bet the river. Was very confusing ♦
I see nothing wierd here... but I hate these hands, really, really hate ♠_evil: ♠_evil: ♠_evil: you always have the feeling that they caught A on river or trying to represent that they caught A on river. I would say that either one of his cards is K
or he has 8x, 3x and hopes you caught A on river.
In any case this is FOLD.
p.s. I would probably call, but that's why I keep losing...
He did catch an A on the river ♦
Unfortunately he had 2 of them in his hand anyway
aw so sad
too bad you posted the result i just came back to post my last 2 cents in here. was still thinking about you and your hand you know... ![]()
that just spoils it.
but i guess you can still read if you like
Spoiler
i was gonna say, the best decision is probably to fold because
1. his line doesnt make any sense (which often often spells doom)
2. you are in position (for sure gonna be able to stack him later)
3. you are both deep (juicy pickin's, you will be able to play a lot more speculative hands with him)
4. his raise is way too large, 5x your bet and like twice the pot? (he needs to be bluffing often for it to be a profitable call down, which tbh isn't that likely)
that said, im not sure if i would've been able to fold at that exact moment. but after thinking a lot, i've decided it is probably more +ev to fold.
i like your play otherwise though- call on flop is good, as well as check behind turn, and bet on river.
Well I was desperately trying to think about his range whilst my timebank was ticking down. I just thought his value raising range is sooooo narrow there that it can't be that bad to call. He is basically limited to AA, 89s, 8Ts, 78s and A8s.
Since I know he's a bad reg who can be aggro I thought he's capable of having bluffs in his range. Oh well, it's noted for future reference so I can avoid paying him off in the future
Work tonight
For me, the sizing says it all ... No matter what his general style/tendencies are, I don't think any reg is bluffraising so big there - you either have smth to call with or you don't, doesn't make sense to make his bluff so expensive.

If you thought his bluff range was much larger than his value range, the fact that he showed up with AA doesn't mean you were wrong. If 70% of his range is bluffs, keep on calling, but note that you're going to lose 30% of the time, which is quite often. Making the best decision means making it against his range, not his hand in this particular instance.

This.
Keep in mind it's NL20, river c/r is not a standard move around here. You would absolutely not be exploited if you folded everything apart from nuts vs river c/r imo. You have mentioned 11 value combos if I'm not mistaked. what are the 4-5 bluff combos you expect him to play like this? Just because someone's value raising range is narrow it doesn't mean he will balance it with a bluffing range.
Btw, 33 and 88 might play like this too sometimes because betting the turn will rarely acheive any value on a double paired board vs your range. Apart from that, you are probably capable of betting plenty of rivers as a bluff vs what seems like a very weak range of his.
honestly, i think its just a snap fold, don't see the debate, his line is just nutted here, his sizing (as static said) is just soooo face up, u shud be folding and be super happy that villain is telling u his hands

BU is a pretty big fish from early signs but I haven't got much info on postflop styles at all. Seriously can I ever call the river here? We're talking a mono flop an a 4 to a straight board by the river and i'm holding 4th set. I call his raise on the turn because I believe he's a big enough fish to stack off to a donk shove on the river with a flush or a straight if I river a full house, and i've got implied odds to call there (Haven't I? If i'm not mistake i'm getting either 7 or 8/1 implied odds and I need 4:1 to make a breakeven call as I have 10 outs).
Literally couldn't believe it when he showed what he had... Such an insane way to play it :x
:f_mad:
It's a really tough call after triple barrel. Although you might be inclined to call since his river bet is kinda small. And don't you mean you have 10 outs?
Sorry yeah 10 outs ♦ I've only just woken up so i'm not yet in the right frame of mind to be counting ![]()
His river bet is really small, but by this point I honestly couldn't see him betting ANYTHING worse than my set. For a second I considered shoving over the top of his raise to rep the flush and get him to fold the straight, but obviously I thought better of it because I remembered he was a fish, and fish don't like to fold hands. The thing is, if i'd have shoved he probably still would have called
:f_mad:
Weird hand. If he is a fish I am probably just shoving over the top of his raise on the turn. He may well call with his A :club:x hands or two pair and we can't really just credit him with a flopped flush or turned straight. Think we are missing vale and also will have to check fold river if a
hits.
As played the river is tough. I could maybe find a fold, but he still will value bet two pair here if he is a fish. I also think he would probably bet bigger with straight or flush, seeing as you called raise on turn.
I don't mind a slightly bigger bet on the flop, and certainly a bigger bet on the turn.
I was gonna say I agree with reraising turn but minraise by a fish is just usually so strong. Bit of a guessing game really, with no reads he could well have 44, any twopair and stuff aswell.
I guess either trying to reraise and get it in on turn, or as you did, call for implieds when we hit, works... but I don't think once we do just call that we should try to find a crying call on the river there. I mean if we're able to find a call on the river now, why werent we able to find a reraise on the turn?
Yeah on the turn I was just calling and treating my hand as a drawing hand really. Since he's an unknown fish I was treating him as you should, as a bad-passive player, so I don't really expect him to bet two pair hands on the river if i'm treating him as passive as the board is just too wet, and even fish know that.
Tbh as we're treating him as bad-passive I think I played the hand well, except for the bet sizing vonki pointed out. I probably could've gone for an overbet on the flop here and then bet bigger on the river again. Although if I do that and he shoves over the top of my turn bet do I call?
Had a poker media blackout today as I had work at 7am this morning so couldn't watch the WSOP Main Event Final 3 live. So I got in at ~1pm, didn't go on any poker website or any Skype group convos and watched the Final Table ♦
Due to shitty internet and other tasks I had to do i've actually only just finished watching. Really wanted to play some 5CD on Stars whilst watching but obv couldn't open up the client since the news would pop up. And either the presence or absence of Pius Heinz in the News would tell me the result ♦
Epic HU match it was though, great play from both players and even though I was rooting for Heinz I felt really bad for Staszko. Great watch though ![]()
Gotta go to bed now though, work at 7am tomorrow, back to help my parents with something (Unless it's raining, here's hoping ♦), maybe an afternoon nap and then grind some
