Nice pyramid DeMarco, pursueing talent is indeed something that gives me the most fulfillment obv :).
Just checked my HU results for last 3 months and I feel such a donk. Why did I ever go back to 6max to go and chase some milestone bonus . Just table select well HU and there is enough monies to ship so I dont need rb at all. Volume is kinda low because I played lots of 6 max. From now on, only HU and I want to reach 15-20k hands a month. Today also took my first shot on PLO1k HU tables (well just waiting), unfortunately got no action. Maybe tomorrow :).
Graph from HU last 3 months:
[x] fish on a heater obv

Some interesting hands from last days:

Anyways its almost 6am now, gonna sleep
I think that the pyramid shows for example that pursuing your talent
will complete you as a person and that it's only the last step in creating a
balanced lifestyle and creating that is possible only if the subsequent "needs"
present in your life are well taken care of.

@topic:
Well, Maslow is quoted all around every university for many years. While I think his pyramid and his quintessence is correct, its just not enough.
In his opinion you move up and down the pyramid step by step, you don't jump over one of them. I think thats simply not true. I know ppl who jump from one to five (especially some really freaky and crazy scientists) or others who find more more than everything on the third step. The motivation behind the pyramid are corporate management systems (I do agree its true here, but not applicable 1:1 with our lives esp in the 21st century)
I also don't think its linear nor can it be separated that clearly (not even if you use the "advanced" pyramid where they tried to break it down in smaller steps). I like to view our needs more like a wave going up and down all the time, simply changing and adapting to our life-situation.
Furthermore, I do think everyone has to create his own pyramid or wave or whatever you call it. Not many will be happy with my wave and I am not happy with Maslow's pyramid. And that's good. Uniqueness makes the difference and makes us happy in the end.
Anyway, no need to start rambling about organisational psychology ...
Some of the replies drifted away and made the whole question way bigger. I think Rio nailed the point pretty good for your initial question Jonas and I agree overall. However, as we are drifting away a bit, let me share a few thoughts:
Wendy mentions a "life with a purpose". I personally don't see it like you Wendy. Although I understand what you are saying ofc you can be right and I can be wrong, just my personal take on it
I dislike defining a purpose in life. It limitates me and I am pretty sure there is more out there than I can define up to that moment. I see" finding the purpose of life and continuously adjusting it" as my goal. The way is the goal so to speak. With that attitude, I am obv assuming I will never ultimately find my personal purpose of life, but only an approximation. I just think this approximation will get me closer to "the truth" than a pre-set definition.
Let's turn to JB's comment:
Two ways to interpret it imo:
1) he just got infected by trolls like theshade and just randomly posts on the forums while picking on his PhD students and offending our lovely community members
2) it's his way of telling you with his immense life experience that you shouldnt daydream (be a girly) because life offers way too many unknown variables. He might think we cannot pre define a purpose, we cannot freely create our lives as we want to and we think is best, we simply have to deal with what standard deviation, variance, karma, god, chance, LIFE offers us. Since this is still a poker forum: we cannot influence the cards we are dealt, we can only focus on how to play them.
[both lines equally likely imo]
Vonki also has some very valid points and I am not quite sure how much I agree or disagree, we can discuss that during NYE
Should help to get wasted a bit and go into philosophical mode ♦
I also very much like Alex's comment. Simply because it shows how complex those questions are and that there is/are probably no or maybe even infinite answer/s.
Not only that, it's also extremely difficult to express thoughts on that subject.
out of topic:
jonas, we probably watch(ed) similar vids lately, let's discuss "best of" soon
i dont wanna miss one of the great ones

hope to meet you guys in 2012

You forgot
3) As you get older, you come to terms with all this stuff and climb up your pyramid etc, etc, then you have kids, and when your family life doesn't pan out quite how you expected it to, you realize there's nothing you can do about it, as kids will do whatever they are going to do, pretty much independent of how you treat them. Or put it another way, interpret my comment as random spazz induced by psycho children driving him completely insane.
Soul bared. Don't expect any similar psychic nudity for some considerable time. That's my penance for offending Wendy.
Jonas, my bow at ur redline
rly tired now to reply more to the long discussion u re having here, but i just thought it's going to be fair to say: i am sorry guys, but i can't come before March. The things have gone such way, i am totally busy w other projects, i would be only able to leave now for ~1 week and i dont think that's rly worth it. I think i ll need to reschedule for ~April. That should be where i take a bit of a break from everything and hope to meet u then. I ll certainly make it a priority then and buy tickets a lot in advance. How long are u planning on staying guys? U ve prolonged ur contract now?
Also: what's w Ivan? it seems like he (again) deleted his fb account and it's rly hard to get in touch w him. Hope everything is good.

Well this month I didnt find any failed ones :P.
I guess you are referring to the QT one? Well he is a poor value vbettor and wouldnt even c/r AQ there, only quads or RF. Since he cant have quads and the fact that hes betting nuts on T close to 90% of the time makes it a pretty easy call afterwards. I excpected to see two pair with Kh/Qh very often.
The Q72hh flop were he c/r. He c/r a lot of draws, on this board meaning fd. Saw hit c/c once on drawy F with topset to c/r dry T. On this board he probably can c/r sets but still, most likely fd. So again fairly easy calldown on 2 bricks
The hand were the fd gets there. He was very aggr and was barreling any kind of draw all the time. His c/c means form of sd value. Majority of his range is just one pair with some overs, since he would barrel draws and also just 2p+draw so don't expect him to c/c with sdvalue+draw. This was a bit tougher call but given these reads again not so special. Against lots of other opponents I obv snapfold
Just had first 1k action ever. 40bb fish sat at my table. Got 2.3k EV from him but around breakeven. Im definately happy with my play. I think I played well and had a big edge. My heart was pumping quite fast tho so have to get used a bit to the bigger numbers :), but I didnt play with scared money as some hands will illustrate

@ joenas
hello there bro.. been following this thread for sometime even before you got here but just too lazy to post.. i'm just here in the next island from cebu, somewhere near boracay..
but when I read your previous post, i just have to give my 2cents on it coz that's how i really felt a few weeks back..
i feel that your bored.. why? maybe because you actually began to stay in your comfort zone and stopped continuing with your adventure in life..
you can never have lasting happiness from material things, you get it more from LIFE EXPERIENCES.. yes, it's when you do some things new, taste new food, getting to know more friends.. etc
your in the right track though.. your trying to learn some new hobby.. how about trying something new which fits your personality and your interests just right.. something like getting good at seducing women and becoming a pick up artist..
.. seriously though, tried that one and certainly made my life a lot more intersting..
..
If you can pick up women in philippines, you shouldnt consider yourself a pick up artist yet
jk. Anyways I got some decent game going on.
I do agree that a lot of hapiness comes from life experiences. I always used to be very adventurous, I mean who would otherwise move to the Philippines and leave a lot behind. But we didnt do that much adventerous stuff here and I miss it I guess.
Anyway add me on skype so we can meet up somewhere soon.
Hi Joenaes!
I'm a masterstudent applied economics @ UA (organisatie en management), I believe you've been there as well. I currently play NL, not PLO.
I need to congratulate you on your project to become a pro-player. What are your plans for next year? Do you have any thoughts about the poker regulations in Belgium?
I was amazed by your non-showdown winnings in a graph you posted, so I started to read up on you. I've read your first blog on the dutch communitysite, which was very interesting; and the past days I've been trying to put the theory into practice. It is a fact that this is one of my biggest leaks.
Can you advice me on some video's perhaps to see?

lol! .. being light skinned and tall gives you too much plus EV on picking up women here.. ♠_grin: don't settle for those bar girls though, for sure they are a little bit of a tougher nut to crack..
go out on your little adventures again then,.. Do even consider taking up ballroom dancing, boxing, scuba diving or cooking classes if that interests you.. just don't forget to post your pics on tights here..

@desk: nice to hear some TEW people are following this as well :). Im most definately gonna prolong my stay here since im going to start up some businesses here. No idea how the regulations affected Belgian players. I'm not longer a belgian resident so it doesnt affect me anymore. Better check the dutch forum, i've read a thread about the subject there. Gl with your exams and your thesis :)!
Dont really have advice either for good nlhe vids

In asia when this happens it's just a real life example of implied odds, IMO.
