Too late, I already busted but won $15... which is just about 3 BI at my level. So, it was a productive Saturday evening.

My Bankroll is now over $300 for the first time. I do need to take some of it out though to pay for bills because I'm a poor student. So, I'm going to leave my bankroll at $200. BUT with the intention of putting the $100 back into my account after christmas!

Busted when I got 88 with 9 Big Blinds remaining, shoved and found out I was up against KQ. Flop was harmless... but suffered from a K on the turn and a Q on the river.

I'll get my second final table next time, I can feel it.... :f_cool:

And thank you xdowntimex... it's much appreciated.

Well done with the cash, you're busto hand is pretty standard, shame it could not hold up in the end.

The only way is up here, I can feel it ;)

I feel it too.... playing in an 888 new players freeroll tonight, so in preparation I've been taking part in some $1 turbo MTT, as I have a bankroll which exceeds $200.

Played: 4
Final Tables: 2
Runner-up: 1
Winner: 0 :(

Profit: +6.5 BI

I'm quite enjoying MTT stuff... fingers crossed Miss Variance stays away for a little while later, but she is a slut.... :f_mad:

Now, time for uni work...

Will do a proper blog update some time soon, in blue font. However, just a quickie... I love 888 $0.96 MTT they are a lot of fun, think I might do some work on these as well as my usual cash-game play.

Today I've taken part in 9 of these quick-fire MTT.

Played: 10
ITM: 6
Final table: 5
Runner-up: 2
Winner: 0

I'm going to work like a dog until I change that last zero into a one!

I'm pretty good at "staying alive" in these competitions until I make the money, playing particularly nitty and capitalising when my hands come. Next stage is being able to play the final tables well, and get into the upper levels of the final table in order to have a boosted ROI%

Quite often today I've had my QQs busted by far weaker hands... I think it must be my queens time of the month, they don't want to play nice... :(

Also, this blog will be much better after December where I buy back PT3 and will be able to actually post hands for analysis, statistics and charts. Until then, here is some funnies:

I'll grind some more MTT, might return to my bread and butter of cash games before bed.

Keep smiling

Thank you, and you'll be "happy" to hear I got another 2nd place on these MTT... but I am without doubt the worst heads-up player ever to play the beautiful game of poker!

Time for a proper blog....

FINALLY.... I won one of these turbo MTTs at the eleventh attempt!

Played: 11
ITM: 7
Final table: 6
Runner-up: 2
Winner: 1
ROI%: 151%

Surprisingly for me I played really well heads up, I made an all-in semi-bluff against an opponent I thought was giving me significant fold equity. He folded, and I was in extremely good shape with the aggression and momentum on the final table. I took the tourney with 99 v A7o. It was only for $10.50 but that's 10 BI at this level of MTT, and on my current form I'm quite happy to keep playing these competitions as a little side project.

On cash games I'm doing pretty well too, up 2 BI in the past day... got a king-high straight flush, but sadly the Royal Flush remains elusive. One of these days, I tells you.... one of these days!

PLUS.... Liverpool beat Chelsea last night, so I'm extremely happy. Fuck you Torres, fuck you Merelies. Beaten them 3 times out of 3 at Stamford Bridge under the majestic rule of the supreme King Kenny :f_cool:

Long this good run continue!
Keep smiling.... and enjoy this song which is apt for me right now:

....... and I'm feeling good! :f_cool:

Won ANOTHER MTT sit'n'go today and since I've been playing about with those I'm up 23BI

Cash game is still my bread and butter though.... and will grind at that once I've done some uni work!

Been MASSIVELY busy with uni work these past few weeks, hence the lack of an update.... however, ladies and gentleman of Pokerstrategy... with a combination of some good play (and a whole lot of complete luck - probably more of the latter) in some $1 MTTs and cash games, I've got my bankroll up to about $350. That's up from $8 since July, so not too bad at all in my opinion. I think I'm going to take a stab at NL10, what do you think? I've never moved up a limit yet so it'll be a good landmark in my poker progression.

I'm still playing without a HUD as I've been unable to get elephant working and am waiting until after Christmas to get poker tracker 3 (or 4). This is something I really want because I feel the only way I can keep improving is by analysing my game after every session. It's perhaps fortuitous that I don't have a HUD right now... as I have to give my university study priority over my poker study.

I've been playing largely ABC poker in cash games, on 888 and Bodog... bodog's new anonymous tables are not too bad for me as I have no HUD, and also there are plenty of fish to bait. I really never liked the idea of it at first, it prevents notes and reads... which at the higher levels is perhaps fatal to +ev. However at NL5, so long as you play safe and don't make stupid moves the anonymous tables aren't completely bad. Contrary to my initial impression, I'll admit, I was wrong.

I'm my non-poker life, I have started (kinda) seeing a girl who's quite a bit out my league.... so I'm running well above ev there! _evil:

But on the downside, I need to start real work on my dissertation, :f_mad:

So, I ask the reader (if there is any) do you think I should move up to NL10? On bodog I feel good, I'm playing good and they don't let you use a HUD any more so that part of my game is perhaps not a significant detriment.

I look forward to the advice of (much) better players...
Keep Smiling

I know you were looking for (much) better players advice, but you'll need to put up with mine :f_biggrin:

I dont think i would feel confident moving up without a HUD, or even playing for that matter. :f_biggrin: But if you feel confident without it I'd personally take a shot at moving up. just need to set yourself a stop loss.

How much would you be happy to lose at NL10 before moving back down?

What about when you get PT3/4?? will you be able to use it on Bodog?

By much better player I meant people who are better than me, which isn't hard. But that certainly includes you gxtwo!

I took the jump up... started off really well, won 2 BI very quickly. However, the next day I lost them just as quickly... but they are moves I'd have made over and over: Full house < full house and Ace-high flush < straight flush.

Today has been quite a nice day, all in all... I'm up 4.5 BI since moving up to NL10 four days ago. I'm feeling confident, and do not feel as though I'm out of my depth at all. Bodog is very soft as always, I really like this room. It's a shame it's no longer supported by Pokerstrategy. :f_cry:

I will not be able to use PT3/4 on Bodog, however, I intend on splitting my bankroll early next year and play NL10 on both Bodog and PartyPoker. Throwing in the occasional MTT for good measure..... also it's good to practice them, while they're also a little way to raise the bankroll steadily!

I'm taking your advice on the stop-loss. When/If I drop down to $230 I will take a break for a few days and when I return will start back at NL5 once again. Is that too high or too low a stop-loss limit for moving down? I picked it because 23 is my lucky number! This will give me 46 BI at NL5, so could perhaps be argued to be very conservative. But when it comes to bankroll, I'd rather be nitty.

Also, good to have you on board Roo. I'll try not to bore you! :f_love:

Feels class when everything goes to plan! Are you still playing NL10?

As for the BRM, I guess its just what ever you feel comfortable with, I shotted NL10 with 20bi, if I dropped two I just moved back to NL5 until I had made the two BI back.

Hope you have a good christmas! I'm working until 9 fml haha

NL10 is still going well, I had a cooler today where a particularly spewy player hit his three outer on the river to beat my two pair with a straight. Not to worry, that's all part of the game! I felt I got my money in while I was ahead and therefore it was a good call.

I railed on the Bodog $100K Weekly competition recently... $150 plus fee for the buy-in... I can only dream of having a bankroll that enables me to enter tourneys like that. The winner took down $20.4K. The lowest person in the money took down $400 - larger than my entire bankroll.

There are $1 Qualifiers for it, think I might try and qualify through the cheap route... which brings me to my 2012 goals:

[ ] Graduate from Uni with at least a 2:1 (fingers crossed)
[ ] Keep improving my poker...
[ ] Improve my positive, determined and non-money centric mindset
[ ] Qualify for the Bodog $100K from the $1 cheap seats
[ ] Endeavour to attend as many NL BSS or SH coachings as I can
[ ] After uni, join the Nuts Poker League again, and go regularly
[ ] Get a job :f_frown:
[ ] Start looking into Masters degrees (I'm thinking Human Rights Law)
[ ] Read articles, re-read and review
[ ] Crush NL10

And, most importantly: [ ] Kick 2012 right in it's balls and show it who's boss!!

I'm sure this will be getting edited as I think up more things.
Hope you all had a great christmas!

Now to kick the last few days of 2011's ass!

Keep smiling

Deposited $50 onto 888 in order to get the free $10 they were offering, plus take advantage of the PT3 Trial again on my new computer. It helped my game immensely last time, so figured having a split bankroll is perhaps a prudent move! I managed to raise that up to $89 and then... this hand came up:

Pacific Poker - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

BTN: $2.44
SB: $9.63
BB: $10.70
UTG: $11.97
MP: $10.00
Hero (CO): $13.47

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero has 8♣ 9♣

fold, fold, Hero raises to $0.40, fold, SB calls $0.35, fold

Flop: ($0.90, 2 players) J♣ Q♣ 4♣
SB bets $0.90, Hero raises to $2.30, SB calls $1.40

Turn: ($5.50, 2 players) 9♦
SB bets $5.50, Hero raises to $10.77, SB calls $1.43

River: ($19.36, 2 players) Q♠

Spoiler

SB shows Q♦ J♥ (Full House, Queens full of Jacks) (Pre 60%, Flop 17%, Turn 9%)
Hero shows 8♣ 9♣ (Flush, Queen High) (Pre 40%, Flop 83%, Turn 91%)
SB wins $18.40

My pokertracker3 graph says this move was +EV, but I'm not sure about it. Should I have folded turn? I thought he was representing anything from two-pair, a set, a straight or a flush. He pot size bet on flop, then turn. I thought he was protecting a set from the very flushy flop.

I know stealing with 98s from CO is potentially loose, but I had a tight reputation on the table, most of my steals were working and my previous showdown hands were AA and KK, so I felt my reputation could have enabled me to take down the pot pre-flop or with a cbet. I do like to keep a slightly wide BB Steal range particularly in 6max. Had I been 3bet preflop, I would have folded.

I got my money in ahead, but was it the right call I didn't have a very strong flush (gutshot straight-flush draw excluded)? It could easily have been flush < flush.

Just wanted to say to everyone on this site... HAPPY NEW YEAR WHEN IT COMES.

Let it be profitable,
Let it be awesome,
Let it be full of naked people,
And let it be full of fun times and laughs!

Today has been a break even day on 888 and profitable on Bodog. This hand is one that pushed me almost to the brink of tilt. But I recovered, auto-rebought and got my BI back!

Pacific Poker - $0.10 NL - Holdem - 6 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 3

CO: $25.80
BTN: $10.00
SB: $12.72
BB: $2.15
UTG: $13.68
Hero (MP): $10.63

SB posts SB $0.05, BB posts BB $0.10

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero has K♣ K♥

UTG raises to $0.40, Hero raises to $1.20, fold, fold, fold, fold, UTG raises to $4.00, Hero raises to $10.63, UTG calls $6.63

Flop: ($21.41, 2 players) 8♥ 4♦ T♣

Turn: ($21.41, 2 players) 5♦

River: ($21.41, 2 players) Q♥

Spoiler

UTG shows A♦ A♠ (One Pair, Aces) (Pre 81%, Flop 92%, Turn 95%)
Hero shows K♣ K♥ (One Pair, Kings) (Pre 19%, Flop 8%, Turn 5%)
UTG wins $20.34

The hand plays itself really, it was one of these muthafuckers:

Actually... talking about batman: July 20th 2012 and the new Batman film CANNOT come soon enough!

Hello all, it's been 12 days since I last posted. AND WHAT A TWELVE DAYS IT'S BEEN.

I got an ear infection, had to do a lot of uni work. However, in poker-terms, switched to SNGs and MTTs. Never a buy-in greater than $3 and have won a cool $666 in twelve days. Essentially trebled my bankroll in the space of under two weeks. I'm only $4 away from making my first $1K in poker! I'm VERY VERY happy with this. Here is the graph of the past few days:

Keep smiling (I know I will be)
