Hey guys! nice blog!

nice hands Patrick!

Since there is a bit of HU content here I will jump into it and ask you a question about how to play vs maniac preflop.

Last night I played 2 successive matches where villains' stats looked like that:

SB: OpenRaise:74, F3B:57, 4B:14
BB: Fold:57, 3B:42, F4B:71
CBet Flop:91

So basically they 3B a looooot and CBet almost always but not quite sure if they are too barrel happy post flop (many pots ended pre).

Obviously basic adjustments 2x open, 4B bluffs, C/R flops were the 1st things I did.
And yet it felt so overwhelming with all the 3B and despite my adjustments I wasn't sure whether he was exploiting me or I was exploiting him.

Would you consider limping SB in those situations?

What would you call 3B with (i.e how wide would you expand your calling range knowing that he CBets a lot)?

After 180 hands I had openraise:78 (a bit high?), F3B:57, 4B:14, Call 3B:29 (i.e top 22% as I was mostly 4B bluff)

Cheers!

Maximus! Hi! How are things? Haven't spoke in too long, I have a new skype so will add you this afternoon.

I don't ever limp the SB, I think it is a huge error, game theory wise it may be fine, +ev, but vs fish who love action and want to 3bet alot we want to give them the illusion that we are gambling and giving as much action as possible, if we start limping the button they will get bored and find a new guy to play with.

A kind of example of this is yesterday, fish stacks me for 300bb pot with KQ vs 78 on 910J. I don't auto reload and he starts goading me in the chat box "don't want more?" I obv reload as I would have done and after calling with the A5 he sits out and I start saying the same thing in chat to him as he was about to quit the session.

With fish we really need to keep entertaining them, we need to do things which will get them excited, not only does it keep them playing but it means that we are able to read the game flow alotttttt better than they are and eventually they will do some stupid line which doesn';t make sense and we will get their stack.

Solid adjustments vs guys that 3bet too often

  • Call all broadways and treat top pair as the nuts
  • Call 3bets and click back flops that won't hit their calling range, i.e 739
  • As gameflow continues start clicking back our top pairs and let them blow
  • Don't 4bet often with 100bbs as they call/jam far too often?
  • Start 4betting when we get deep enough (but not too deep) that they won't want to 5bet bluff
