"Hi,

I'm a 21 year old guy from Finland, who allegedly played MTT's (5-10$) quite succesfully between 2010-2012. Now I'm quite serious about making a comeback in poker. I'm sure that I would easily beat micro MTT's right now, but I don't have the time to grind 5-8 hour sessions.

That's why I'm trying to play cash games this time. Started with 50€ a week ago and played around 6k hands in NL2. Got up to ~100€ and now I'm playing NL4.

Right now I'm in Turkey on a holiday and when I come back, I'm gonna start writing a blog."

So, that's what I said in my post on the Introduce yourself -forum a week ago. Came back from Turkey couple of days ago. Cool place, but I burned my back the very first day, so that kinda sucked.

Now let's get to the stuff this blog is going to be about; poker. Like I said in my introduction, I'd played some NL2 and NL4 before the vacation. It went well, but I just couldn't play with PokerHeaven's software anymore. It just tilts me way too much. So I moved my roll to PokerStars and started to grind NL5 Zoom. Have been playing for 3 days now, got in 13k hands and made some profit as well.

All hands from all stakes:

One thing I noticed was that there is a BR-challenge going on. I'd be interested to join if I could get the progress I've had this week in it. Start with 50€ and mark this week profits in it. But I don't know if that's possible.

The reason I want to start keeping a blog is simply the fact that I want to get better. Posting hands, results etc. can be really motivating. Right now I have a ton of leaks in my play, and by posting hands and getting opinions from other players is going to help me a lot. Right now my biggest leaks imo are:

1. Tilting

I don't tilt the worst way possible. I don't get mad and just start throwing multiple buy ins away. But when I get angry, I start making bad decisions that on average cost me 1-2 bins before I realize I should prob stop.

2. Riverplays

I think I make a lot of mistakes on the river. The most common is calling too light. And I don't mean like calling 3 streets with a bottom pair. I mean situations where it feels bad to fold but you know you should. I'm getting better at this but it's still a problem. But yea, I have other leaks on my river decision making too.

3. Long sessions

I'm not sure if it's making a huge difference, but I think I've been playing sessions that are just too long. 5 hours without a brake can't mean 5 hours of flawless thinking. I also think that the longer the session goes, it's easier to tilt.

I'm going to give myself some goals, every week or so. I'm going start easy on myself. My goals for this week are:

1. Play 15k hands.
2. Post 3-5 hands here and on the Hand discussion -section.
3. Shorter sessions. At most 2 hrs without a brake.

I think that's enough for the first post. Don't expect much comments, this blog is going to be mostly for myself after all. It's not going to be exciting or entertaining. It's just a tool for me to get better.

See ya!

Holy crap!

Just had a horrible session. I played pretty bad, but I ran even worse. Not just EV-wise, I constantly ran into the top of my opponent ranges. Felt like shit being almost 6 bins down, but I somehow managed to come back.

These two hand are my absolute favorites of the session.

Played a little more, although I should've gone to sleep hours ago. Grinded NL5 for awhile, got my BR to 200$ and decided to take a shot to NL10. It went well. Especially when there are guys like this.

Thanks man!

Things are looking good in NL10. Feeling comfortable and making good decisions (most of the time).

I came across one interesting spot where I had no idea what to do.

What's CO's cold-calling range here, when he looks like a solid player after a small sample? I'm not sure but I'm pretty positive we can't beat it with AK. Getting pretty good odds so after a bit of tanking I decided to call and fold missed flops.

What if it was a 60/40 fish cold-calling? Do we 4-bet to ~30bb or just shove? Or is folding ever an option?

Gotta get some nap-time going on and get to work. I don't believe I mentioned it but I've got a summer job. It takes some of the grinding time but no worries, I think my volume is enough as it is.

Maybe you should consinder a stoploss , for nl10 you only had 20 bi (22) and you are playing fast tables which are terrible in ups and down, the variance is crazy... Maybe regroup at nl 5 get the mental game better because i think that just like me you may have a slight tilt problem:), don t get mad, it s just an opinion.

Quick update.

Lost abit more on NL10. Moved to NL5. I'm continuing to lose but I've realized some major issues in my game and playing much better now. Just had a session where I played really really good. Unfortunately I lost AA vs KK, AA vs QQ and bvb QQ vs KK and decided to end the session. Been having a really tough time these last couple of days. Knowing that it's at least 60% my fault for playing bad helps a bit cause I know I can improve. Running bad is not cool but there's nothing you can do about it.

Yeah, I think stoploss is a great idea. I've said it before, I have a slight tilt problem but I'm trying to work on it. Thanks for reading man! :)

Hey, bad beat and coolers will happen, stay calm and focus and i m sure you get back on track in no time, maybe a little more BRM on your part and tilt control, i am a beginner myself, what really helps me at nl2 nl5 is a 3 bi stoploss at nl2 and 2 bi at nl5 especially at zoom, in regular games i just table select the crap out of it and i can go to 3 bi or even 4 bi, i always remember when i have a bad day at these stakes i remember that all these players at such stakes are really bad even the regulars( no offense to anyone) and i only need 2-3 good hands in a 1000 to make the money, don t get yourself in spots where they wont just give up the pot... And you try to bluff them off.

Regarding tilt , found some interesting articles from a psychologist regarding poker, if you want add me as friend and i l send them via message, i can t on the forum.

Good luck at the tables

1. tiltcontrol
2. more hands are not always better
When i first started did i play way to much for my ability. 3-5k hands and i just got bored and frustrated, poker became automatic and thanks to that did i played poorly and i even tilted.

Tilt is very detrimental to your game, it should be fixed first of all. I think all beginners would lose much less if they started out in this area.

Nowdays do i only play 1-2k hands max, i actually feel tired after 1k. And i changed to 6max. And breaks between. Not the feeling that i must play hands or hours.

You obv is doing good after 13k hands. Always be aware of the mental part. It took you 13k hands to do a good profit but it takes a very short time to tilt it away so please dont.

Indeed Frexas, as poker players we must always think of the long run, patience is key and fewer hands sometimes means more concentration on the game.table selection especially at the micros is the key.

I should add table selection!! This is very crucial. When i played on Pokerstars did i just join a table now when i am playing on my favorite site do i always take the table where i have the biggest edge. I will never understand people who even leave the table when a maniac enter the table. You should embrace it, and always take the seat at the maniacs table

Hi guys!

teddypoker: thanks!

Frexas & remy: table selection is one thing I can't do as I'm playing Zoom :)

Today has been going good poker-wise. I've played 3 sessions, first one 1 bin down, second and third 8 bin up total. Glad to see I can still win.

Had a good day today. Played around 4k hands in 4 sessions, all ~1k hands. First session 1 bin down. Second 4,5 bins up. Third 0,5 bins down and the last one I just quit was a little over 2 bins down. I may play a short session after I take a half hour brake. Solid poker, except for the last hand where I made a stupid call. It's actually great hand to show for you. It's a standard tilt-play. Been playing 800 hands kinda card dead, just lost a 4-bet pot KK vs ATs on a TxxTx board. Villain has made some horrible plays before, but we are NEVER beating anything here. Before I can think anything, I snapcall. Sigh.

But anyways. At least I knew to stop playing. Here's my graph of my NL5 Zoom journey.

I'm a little concerned about my red line, but I've been trying to work on it. As you may notice, the last 8k hand or so, it's not dropping as bad as before. I'm aware that in the micros the red line is always going to be going the wrong way, but I'm just trying to mitigate the damage.

Also, I've played 2 MTT's, mostly for fun when watching movies. All I can say is that micro MTT's are soooo soft. People have no idea what they're doing. It's a shame I don't have the time (or the roll) to play them. Didn't cash anything, the other one I bust quite early and the other one I busted right before the bubble, mainly 'cause I'm not good at flipping :)

That's all, have a great night!

Shouldn't have started this session. LOL. The only good thing is that I'm not tilting and still playing well so I can continue. But holy shit. First 200 hands of the session.

First KK vs AQs, 3-betted pot. KTxss. Moneyz in. He hits the flush. No problem. -1 bin.

Second one. 3-betted pot. Flop Txx. I have KK. Moneyz in. He has TT. No problem. -2 bin.

Third one. I got nutboat with JJ on a 633JT board. Moneyz in on the river. He has 33. -3 bin.

Fourth one. "Std" preflop all-in BTN vs BB. AK vs 59o. -4 bin.

Like I said, I'm not tilted. I actually started to laugh after the last one. Doomswitch on baby! Gonna continue this session and report in the end how it turns out. At -6 bin I'm stopping, doesn't matter if I'm tilted or not.

Vamos!

Edit: The rest of the session was pretty boring. No cards, no action. One QQ vs KK against a 44/30/20 aggrotard and one AA vs AA. Ended up being a little over 4 bins down which I recognize as a win considering the circumstances. Gotta get some sleep now. Bye!

Feeling pretty bad. Just can't seem to win. Played A-game like 90% of the session.
