How much did variance influence my play

Im not sure how to calculate this, I need to do some revising here so I can better myself at coping with variance

Area's im trying to improve

1) Squeezing - ive shown a massive improvement here, would like to watch the rest of the video tomorrow
2) Vs squeeze - haven't had chance to test out my own constructed ranges yet since I put them together yesterday
3) 3bets - playing 3bets and 3bet pots much better
4) Vs 3bets - again playing against these well too
5) 4bets - good improvement here
6) Vs 4bets - this has also improved quite a lot
7) Mental game - I've show a huge improvement in this area, I think my overall tilt control is improving a lot and since I've understood that emotions block learning I seem much more relaxed and calm.
8) Multi way pots - this is a new area I added due to some mistakes ive made I need to do some work on this

I will keep this the same for this week since I feel it is my weakest area, I didn't play that much this week so I was unable to complete most of this.

I was playing really good for the first part of this, I went out at the weekend and drank a lot and partied hard, this seemed to have a very negative affect on my play,

Results

How well I played

Throughout the week i have played reasonably well, i feel like my Agame has taken a step further

Solid Bgame

Tilt control

This was ok up until my last session i let my emotions block something im learning and lost $94 in that session vs 1 player, also i think i was on slight revenge tilt, after making some huge 250bb mistakes vs him, witch is why im putting some more work into player analysis i didn't know it as well as i thought

Focus level

I have been much less distracted by the cashier but it is still distracting me way to much

Evaluation

Area's I need to improve

1) Squeezing and vs squeeze -
2) Playing drawing hands -
3) MW pots -
4) Playing vs CS and Loose passive -
5) Player analysis -

I have definitely, made some improvements to 2,4 and 5, i don't get as spewy with drawing hands, i am bluff catching and betting for value better vs CS and loose passive, and i have recognised a mistake analysing what i though was a maniac.

Some of the biggest win's and loss's this week

This player was a maniac

Firstly, I have not been well this week and its really affected my play as you can see by the huge downward spike on the graph.

Ok, so my approach to fixing my weakness's hasn't been working as well as i hoped it would, im still making some silly mistakes, I have been reading a little bit more of "The Mental Game of Poker" and would like to try out this for a few weeks and see how it goes.

Let me start by saying this has taken me about 5 hours to do :f_zZz:, i have analysed the last 3 weeks of play, and wrote down all the mistakes i can see, i have categorized them in order of severity, Bgame being the least and Fgame being the worst (obviously :f_biggrin:). now i have a clear idea of how im actually playing. My plan now is to start from the back end like inchworm suggests, I will try not to make any mistakes in my Fgame until that is eliminated, then move on to Egame until that is eliminated, you see where im going with this. once i feel i have Fixed all the mistakes in Fgame i will remove it from this list, if i make one of them mistakes again i will just add Fgame back with that 1 mistake i made since it cannot be eliminated from my game. I will aslo change my session goals here they are:

1 - Try not to make any Fgame mistakes
2 - don't look at cashier while playing, because its a distraction

I will always aim to play my Agame but its harder to do this then you might think, so im not going to have it as a goal, but if i do manage to play my Agame i will make sure i feel good about it.

Agame

I don't make any of these mistakes listed below

Bgame

1 - calling with a DSD
2 - call from sb loose
3 - over calling unsuited connectors
4 - cbet bluffing dangerous flops
5 - cbet bluffing players that just dont fold to cbets

Cgame

1 - 3 bet bluff vs a player with low FT3B stat
2 - squeeze bluff vs low FT3B stat
3 - Turning a showdown hand into a bluff
4 - playing draws aggressivly vs CS LAG and loose passive players that dont fold

Dgame

1 - calling passive players bet MW when they dont have initiative
2 - call min 3bets with PP's and continue after the flop vs unknowns
3 - calling pot bets
4 - bluffing after the cbet
5 - calling a donk bet with 3rd pair
6 - cbetting more then 1/2 MW

Egame

1 - call with reverse implied odds
2 - call over bets
3 - 4bet bluff vs a bad LAG
4 - calling pot river bets when bluff catching
5 - calling river donk when obvious draw completes
6 - calling 3 bets with dominated hands

Fgame

1 - call a tight passive players slight over bet MW
2 - calling a passive players flop reraise even on draw heavy boards
3 - calling river reraises when draws complete
4 - calling a reraise on the turn when a 4 card straight or flush appears
5 - treble barrel bluffing in 3 bet pots vs a low 3bet stat after set mining
6 - shoving with SD mw over bet+raise
7 - calling all in with SD
8 - Calling/4betting a 2% 3 bet stat with AK QQ
9 - calling a postflop reraise with a weak trash hand
10 - calling a 3bet check raising flop and shoving turn with air
11 - calling 5bets after 4bet betting for value with hands like TT JJ

Excellent blog. Keep it up andf I will follow you.
can you give some details on how you analyzed your DB?

Is it coincidence, that most posted hands you were OOP?

good luck

Hello bigdog,

Thank you for the polite feedback. You could be on to something there, my OOP skills might not be that good, if that's where im losing, thank you for pointing that out, I will look into that.

Now for your question, what I did to start with was, have a look at the last 3-4 weeks playing poker, I started with all the biggest wins/loss's all above 40bb, I thought this would be a good start, I wrote down all the mistakes I could see on a a piece of paper, then I categorized them, in order of what I felt was most costly to least costly, now I have a good idea of how im playing, I know what my biggest weakness's are and I my main goal for a session to to keep out of my Fgame, after doing, I have a list of my Fgame mistakes and corrections that I read, every time before I play, as part of a warm up, ive been doing this for about 5 days now and it, helps quite a lot, to fix the mistakes, people think it can be done over night, but there wrong, it takes a lot of reputation, to fix them for good, on a final note, knowing your mistake is not enough, you need a proper correction.

Let me start by saying im not going to blog like this here any more, Im already doing it on my other blog so it seems pointless to do it twice, I will just rant on and vent a little, and post up the weekly review and some interesting hands.

I am also going to change the amount of tables i play from 2-1 until im crushing 1 table, then i will consider playing 2.

I have changed my revising to work on the mental side of poker, what I have found is quite, interesting, I have been tilting without even realising it, and coming away thinking I have played good, my skill in recognising my opponent's skill, recognizing my own skill has improved making it easier to know where I need work and look for weakness's in my opponent's games, im learning how to play 3bet pots and tilt players, since im learning what kinds of tilt there are, im being able to spot it at the table in other players and put them in positions to make costly mistakes, take a look at these hands, I played all these hands vs the same player in the same, session he was a regular, we had about 3k hands vs each other and I found his week point. ill start of from smalles wins to biggest, because that's how it went followed by him sucking out on me for 350bbs _evil:.

After the skill of recognizing your own skill improves, you start to realise how bad of a player you actually are, it is a harsh reality to face, but I have faced up to it, i know what needs to be done, instead of thinking everybody gets lucky, like this hand above, he didn't get lucky, his range has about 40% chance to win, probably more that's just an estimate, you can say all you like but, I made a mistake wanted to gamble with my QQ for 350bb

I've changed my graph to BBs rather then cash, its more accurate, since i have been moving up and down from NL5-NL10, it makes me feel better to look at, it seems i have some mental issues with "hate losing"

This week seems to be better then last week :f_biggrin:.

I still however made many mistakes and need to keep working on them. I have discovered that i suffer from injustice tilt, and running bad triggers it, i have also discovered that its fear causing my mind to go blank in big pots. I am working to fix this. I believe the problem to be, bad at recognizing good variance, im trying to look for spots where i was lucky.

I don't really have a lot to say, here is my graph and some of the biggest wins and loss's this week

This weeks graph

When I started this week I for some reason tilted the first day as you can see I dropped like $80 in the first day, the next few days were really tough, i seemed to try and chase my loss's back, i got my game together after about 3-4 days, i started playing well again but still making some stack mistakes, i believe i was still chasing the loss's, saying that, i believe there is something positive here to take. my play has improved in the back end of my range, and i think this graph shows it well, if we look at inbetween the drops on the graph, its still a nice uphill for the most part of it and a nice redline to, based on my play this is the worst week where, i played bad, i had 3 hours sleep the other night followed by a heavy drinking session, witch is pretty much the last 1000 hands where it drops again.

Conclusion - We need to get them 8 hours each night to give us the best chance to play in the front of our range, and drinking is a big no no, for poker players, it really affects your body mind attitude happiness for days, witch all seems to show up at the poker tables.

Hey FronzenElf,

Congrats on winning the status upgrade! Hope all your internet problems are sorted for good now!
I had a IP who would only communicate through email. So when I had problems I couldn't get in touch! lmao 'experts in communication' was their motto!
