Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $2(BB) Replayer
Hero ($496)
BB ($273)
UTG ($291)
UTG+1 ($194)
CO ($200)
BTN ($253)

Dealt to Hero 9♦ J♦

fold, fold, fold, fold, Hero raises to $8, BB calls $6

FLOP ($16) 6♣ J♣ J♠

Hero bets $13, BB calls $13

TURN ($42) 6♣ J♣ J♠ T♠

Hero bets $29, BB calls $29

RIVER ($100) 6♣ J♣ J♠ T♠ J♥

Hero bets $35, BB calls $35

Villain is 25/4/1 (VPIP/PFR/AF) No specific reads. Small sample (224 hands)

I guess his range here is pretty well defined as FD, 77-TT and maybe overpairs.

Would you ever consider c/r? Why?

I think that there are more hands calling that there are hands betting if we check and that's why I chose a bet. Should I have bet any bigger? I figured he has underpair to a T so often that he'd just fold to a big bet.

Cheers

I think I would bet river bigger. With T he is probably calling, with overpair also (maybe raising), also he could see your bet as bluff and call with some lower FH. I´d bet something around 75.

I would also bet the river and I also like a bigger bet.
People have a hard time folding full houses, I think he's never folding a T and as Kosmonaut already mentioned he might also raise an overpair in any case.
I wouldn't bet superbig, but I think a bet of $55 doesn't change his callingrange too much compared to a $35 bet, so in general IMO a bet of $55 has a higher EV.

You can pretend you have basted FD and make overbet $132 :P

Nothing much you can rep here besides overpair and spiked T.
I would probably try to v-town him with a good bet $75, he might spiked a T on turn, and he probably has a boat holding 22-Tx

I think that hands that will call such bet will most likely bet themselves when checked to which makes me like c/r more, it also protects our checking range, that's obv not all that important but still nice added benefit to have.

I think I can partially agree with this one. But no way they will bet 22-55 in this spot. However there is a good chance they will call. They'd probably not bet 6x, 77, 88 and 99 as well. Quite sure they will bet with Tx tho, but I think it will be a b/f most of the time, obviously this is oponnent dependant.

And fwiw, I dont think they will bet with his range close to $75, rather halfpot or less. So when you bet this big, and you get a call it is a better play than c-raise when oponnent b/f with $50. Agreed?

Well if there is a good chance that villain will hero w 22/55 type stuff then i'd say there is a good chance he won't b/f Tx as well, but then his calling range is much wider than betting so i guess on this case i'll have to agree that betting >> c/r

I really doubt he has 22-55 here. I put him a lot on 77-99 actually. He could definitely have spiked a T, especially since the T :club: is out ther.

Let's say he's floating AT 100% of the time, T :club:9 :club: and 10 combos of QT - KT. That gives him 26 combos that include Tx, whereas there are only 15 of 77-99. So actually he should have Tx a lot here. Maybe we should even pot it and make it look like we're more poarised. It's not super unlikely that he has an overpair also.

Yea but are you crazy enough to ever show up with air here? Also why do you think that he never ends up having 6x?

I think he folds 6x on the turn.

I probably don't show up with air, because he has so many Tx in his range, but maybe he thinks I do with some busted flush draw or AQ - AK

ofc not, if he folds 6x on the turn than he must be a real nit or he must have a real specific read that you are not aggressive. I think we should assume he will call 6x at least 75% of the times on the turn. He will call FD's and Tx 100% of the time and call gutshots like 50% of the times on turn. When river comes a J, he will bet so little times that I think betting river 3/4 pot is still the best option.

Although his range is maybe a little smaller than said in my previous post.

Yea, if he folds 6x on turn then one of you is probably too nitty and so villain won't have much hard time folding even Tx if you make a PSB or overbet. Even 3/4 vs such player might be too much.

Ok, maybe he calls a 6 on the turn, in which case he should also call a bet on the river with it.

So, actually I think we all agree that we should bet bigger on the river. NOW, I'd like to change this discussion a bit. Let's put ourselved in villain's shoe:

We have 6x, 77-99. It seems like everybody would call that on the turn. What's your plan on the river then?

Against an aggressive player, I think we'd have to call river too, because supposedly we can't call anything other than Tx and therefore, since we're peeling anything down to 6x on the turn, pfa should be barreling river to make us fold those hands. Therefore, we should be calling (in theory at least).

How much would you bet if you had Tx and you were trying to move the guy out from splitting the pot?

If we have Tx, I would call the river too ofcourse (it is now less likely that you have Jx). With lower PP I would think a little bit. It is bad spot to bluff imo and you are not valuebetting here lower FH or overcards too often. I would fold here lower FH versus 3/4 pot.
But we dont know if opponent also thinks that way. And main point why to bet big here, is to get value from Tx or overpair.

Hopefully hannes will correct me if i'm wrong since i'm really not sure of nowadays 6max dynamic but in general it seems like a spot which most reg type players will consider as lame spot to barrel since all draws missed + they are repping very narrow value range so without more specific reads calling w 6x on river would be spew imo. Sure you might get bluffed of the best hand some % of the time but it shouldn't be that often to make a call profitable in vacuum imo.

Sure. I agree that in practise, most people wouldn't barrel river as a bluff. But I'm actually consdiering a more theoretical point of view.

If we're calling turn with hands as weak as 6x, we have a good deal of hands which can't stand a river bet. Even Tx is hardly better than a bluff catcher, since it can hope for nothing but a split when pfa is vbetting.

So considering all that, this might actually be a good spot to barrel river as a bluff, especially since we could have floats that picked up equity on the turn, fd, etc.

And against someone who will be 3barreling there, we should be calling, because his value range is really narrow.

Again, this is all theory. I doubt that calling 6x would be profitable. 3barreling however might be, since we seem to agree that calling 6x is not profitable

Yea, i agree w that. Also it seems to me that blank cards are becoming the new scare cards between regs.

Or it was long time ago but i'm just lame.
