Hi all

End of day 2 of my challenge, did not go well at all, tried to play way too aggressively when I had healthy chip stacks and it cost me dearly in the middle stages of the tournaments. My BR suffered a loss today but we'll recoup, get some sleep and try again tomorrow.

Like the title of the thread says, can I be disciplined, I am trying but sometimes temptation is just too great, there is not lots of tournaments running on Netbet in the 10c - 50c category during the day, so while waiting for tournaments I tried some speed poker and the lowest limit there is NL5, played about 200 hands and lost $10.
Needless to say that I won't be trying that again soon.

Day 4 and 5 has been going on downward however I feel my game is improving.

I am sticking to tournaments with a max buy-in of 50c.
Watched some tournament training vids on this site and studied opening ranges and calling ranges in different positions.
I also tried not to limp in too much and have brought my VPIP down.

I was well placed to be in ITM in the 500Euro Top Gear tournament - there was 50 players left and 45 got paid and then I did something foolish, I did not raise from the SB when a Big stack called from UTG, I just called which brought the BB along

Most of my eliminations have been where I have been beaten by a much worse hand such us 84o vs my KK and gets 2P or my AKo vs J9o and he gets trip 9's with an A on the board.

The TT hand would be a clear shove with you’re 10bb stack. Than you know it for next time.
Maybe it’s better to see a tournament graph as well, because info in bb is for tournaments not so interesting. Off course isn't 22 tournaments a good sample.

Hi once again

Today was a up and down day till it went up again in my final tournament of the day so I am ending the day on an upswing
I still should limit myself to 1 re-buy and an add-on, because I like the re-buy button too much, will work on that. I should also work on my emotions when encountering multiple bad beats.

Still have loads of learning to do

Hi again

Today I lost about 10Euros as I wanted to play the Sunday Ricochet 5000Euro multiple entry tournament and lost most of the 10Euros there with re-buys and add-ons.

I think I played solidly enough however just was at the wrong end of some coolers and bad beats.

The first hand is not how I exited but I played the villain last night and he won a tournament I came second in. Last night because he was big stacked he went all-in with every hand and made some of the players use some rough language. So seeing who it was, I raised with my pocket 10's, he went all-in as I knew he would based on what I saw yesterday, and I called. In hindsight, I don't think he would have risked his tournament life with 72o.

So my first week in the Bank Roll Challenge is done and I increased my BR from $30 to $80 which I don't consider too bad, I am well on my way to achieve my $100 target by the end of the month.

Hope next week will be more of the same, will have to take 2 days off though as we have some religious holidays next weekend.

Hi there

I've decided to blog only once a week.
Last week was very disappointing, lost more than half of my BR.
Lost 20Euro through silly mistake, had auto early rebuy option selected and thought I got knocked out of a tournament and did not realize it kept re-buying because I had other tables open as well, valuable lesson "do manual re-buys and add-ons"
From my stats I notice I am limping way too much or just calling from late position with Ax and Kx hands, I get caught in two minds whether to raise or just call, so I usually just call.
My current stats reads VP23PF9AF19 for my last 10K hands, when I started my VP was high 20's and early 30's so I think there is an improvement.
I am also going to Showdown way too many times thinking my had is good only to be beaten by set, straight or flush. So there is lots of improvement to do.

Hi once again

As can be seen from the bankroll reporting thread I have had another disappointing week BR wise, however I feel I am becoming a better player, so that is a positive I can take from the past 2 weeks.
This coming week I am only going to be playing Freerolls as my BR is pretty much depleted, so much for being disciplined
I have lots of time on my hands being unemployed so I just have to study and grind them freerolls.

Hands played = 4730
Starting BR = $33.35
Current BR = $5.21

I also got to reach Gold Status on Netbet woohoo

Not much to say, another bad week even in the freerolls, it has been going like this hand I just played now:
Bad beat after bad beat...

Will keep going though, keep on playing, hopefully things will turn around.
Got quite a few tokens on Netbet to play the daily finals and instant win vip tournaments, so my strike it lucky there

I'm rooting for you You say that you're improving as a player - that's great and these are cheap lessons if you learn from them.

Just one question - you describe your style in post 1 as "loose" - I note from your stats on 20th July that you are playing 23/9. That's extremely passive. Its really tough to be profitable with such a style - have you considered adjusting this core approach? My feeling (and there are far better qualified people than me to comment) is that loose is very difficult to pull off in the microstakes and a tight aggressive approach usually pays off best.... because the bad players call you down with little or nothing (if you're loose, then their nothing is often better than your nothing!). Passive play also gives cheap/free cards to your opponents and gives them the opportunity to improve leading to a lot more "bad beats".

Thanks for the reply it is appreciated, as can be seen I am still learning, my main problem is limping into pots from late position with cards like KJ, KQ, Q10, suited connecters and suited Ax, I find it hard to be aggressive with those cards in LP, think I am scared of playing those if I raise and don't either hit or get a draw. Even draws I play passively by X/C to the river, so I have lots to learn and lots of leaks to plug, but I am getting there.

My view, and the way I play is that if I am first into the pot, I NEVER limp. If my cards are good enough to enter the pot, then they are good enough to raise.

If the pot has already been opened, then you can split your cards into two categories...
1) Cards that are likely to often give you the best hand. This includes your high pairs and broadway cards. You want to play this kind of hand against fewer opponents, so should avoid limping and decide whether to raise or fold.
2) Cards that will usually be second best, but when they do hit, they are likely to give you the nuts or near nuts. You are happy to play these cards multiway (indeed prefer many opponents) and you can limp into these kind of pots (assuming the pot has already been opened. Hands you are likely to play like this may be suited connectors, suited aces and low to mid pocket pairs (set mining).

The aim of category 1 hands is to win lots of small pots. You will often want to aim to control the pot size and avoid over inflating the pot.
The aim of category 2 hands is to win occasional big pots. When you hit, you will often want to build the pot as much as you can.

If you had a HUD then you would be looking at things like how often your opponents fold to steal attempts in deciding how wide to open raise (as opposed to folding) in late position. It can be right to open raise some opponents without even looking at your cards.

Here's a report from my database showing where the I am in the cutoff or on the button, I am dealt suited aces + suited connectors + KQ + KJ + KT + QJ + QT + JT (the range you mentioned) and the pot is unopened to me.....

You can see that I raise 90.7% of the time and limp just 0.1% of the time (I'm curious what that 0.1% was for lol). Overall this is highly profitable showing winnings of 54.4 bb/100.
