Hi!

I started playing poker before Black Friday - through some miracle of Odin, I managed to spin up $50 on Betfair (RIP pre-iPoker days) to a few grand, originally through microstakes cash games before starting to dabble into MTTs. I always had dreams of grandeur of grinding my way up through the cash game stakes but I was a losing player; however, somehow I seemed to be making it work in tournaments. I was primarily playing for fun anyway but life took the front seat in the mid-2010's - when DeucesCracked was gradually dying of inactivity and whispers of solvers began to creep into the woodwork.

Cue a few weeks ago and I stumbled across a game called Balantro, one where you make the best hand you can out of a selection of drawn cards which can get crazy with all sorts of modifiers to boost your score as well as handicaps to play around. It reminded me of my love for poker and sure enough, it wasn't long before I downloaded Stars to take a look at what was going on and the resources people use these days. After trying a few micro MTTs and immediately falling in love again, I thought having a blog thread for accountability would help with keeping me on the straight and narrow.

With all the boring stuff said, I figured I'd give it a shot at being a less-losing donk than I am right now and here we are, so without further ado:

Bankroll Challenge
I have money spread on a few sites but for simplicity's sake:
Starting roll: $800
Goal: $5000, so we might be here a while, but it's all good, I'm here for the journey. Currently have a nitty ABI of $2 with the occasional try at a $5.50.

Will be playing primarily on 888 with a mix of Stars/GG/Sky to compliment along with some other sites if the tourney spread looks good (fun fact: my account has been closed on Unibet and I feel like all I did was spend maybe £1-2 of rake trying out their software before withdrawing the next day, so unfortunately they're not an option :().

Addendums:
- I have a SHR subscription at DTO and will be using it daily for drills (focusing on 40BB and below stacks) as well as looking into aggregate reports - I will likely try GTOW as well once the month is up then decide which one to stick to
- Will typically late reg unless it's a PKO. I've tried max late regging and in some tournaments, you're left with 7-10BB and an orbit before it goes up, so I'm experimenting with regging at certain blind levels and seeing if I can find a sweet spot for my own comfort level
- I work a full-time 9-5 so realistically unless I start binking every couple of tournaments, movement will be slow - but for now, the focus is on improvement before ramping up volume

Will post with updates, spots that I found personally challenging and generally trying to be less bad than the day before. :f_thumbsup:

I'll post a proper update and a few HHs with some thoughts when I have some time tomorrow but for an abridged version: I decided to play a $1 Sat on 888 and won a $16.50 MTT ticket. You don't get T$ and so I had a look at their tournament schedule for that buy-in level and saw a few PKOs with decent guaranteed prize pools tomorrow but I feel like playing tonight and decide to enter a $16.50 Mystery Bounty Turbo.

I play from the beginning (125 bigs but blinds increase fast) and manage to make it ITM. For context, the top bounty is $200, two $100s, 3 $50s and eventually scales all the way down to several $8.18s.

Very first hand after the bubble pops:

888Poker, $15 + $1.50 - Hold'em No Limit - 700/1,400 (175 ante) - 7 players

UTG (Hero): 15,653 (11 bb)
MP: 10,367 (7 bb)
MP+1: 52,753 (38 bb)
CO: 32,570 (23 bb)
BU: 1,445 (1 bb)
SB: 11,028 (8 bb)
BB: 20,851 (15 bb)

Pre-Flop: (3,325) Hero is UTG with A♣ T♠
Hero raises to 15,478 (all-in), MP calls 10,192 (all-in), 5 players fold

Flop: (23,709) 8♥ 5♦ A♥ (2 players, 2 all-in)

Turn: (23,709) T♥ (2 players, 2 all-in)

River: (23,709) 6♦ (2 players, 2 all-in)

Total pot: 23,709

Showdown:
UTG (Hero) shows A♣ T♠ (two pair, Aces and Tens)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 47%, Flop: 88%, Turn: 95%, River: 100%)

MP shows 4♣ 4♠ (a pair of Fours)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 53%, Flop: 12%, Turn: 5%, River: 0%)

UTG (Hero) wins 23,709

I think this hand is too good to fold but don't want to be rejammed by the larger stacks, so I just get it in and win a coinflip against one of the shorties. This is my first bounty and I'm so excited to win one that I forget to screenshot.

Very next hand:

888Poker, $15 + $1.50 - Hold'em No Limit - 700/1,400 (175 ante) - 7 players

UTG: 52,403 (37 bb)
MP: 29,420 (21 bb)
MP+1: 1,095 (1 bb)
CO: 9,978 (7 bb)
BU: 18,401 (13 bb)
SB (Hero): 27,420 (20 bb)
BB: 143,070 (102 bb)

Pre-Flop: (3,325) Hero is SB with A♦ A♥
UTG calls 1,400, 4 players fold, Hero raises to 27,245 (all-in), 1 fold, UTG calls 25,845

Flop: (57,115) K♠ 9♣ K♣ (2 players, 1 all-in)

Turn: (57,115) 4♥ (2 players, 1 all-in)

River: (57,115) Q♣ (2 players, 1 all-in)

Total pot: 57,115

Showdown:
SB (Hero) shows A♦ A♥ (two pair, Aces and Kings)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 87%, Flop: 65%, Turn: 80%, River: 0%)

UTG shows T♣ A♣ (a flush, Ace high)
(Equity - Pre-Flop: 13%, Flop: 35%, Turn: 20%, River: 100%)

UTG wins 57,115

Rough board and we end up mincashing for $14.76. However...

It stings a little less when you cash out for $14.76 + $200.
