This week I kinda fell of the wagon. I didn't meet my criteria for study/play time.
I need to reflect on this as it's possible due to the upswing I'm having I'm even more eager to play. Don't want to get to mad into this but just yh enjoy the rungood but keep hitting those books.

Hope my rungood will continue. Atm first 2 weeks of April are better than my best month this far  Pbb just jinxd it :f_biggrin:

Owkeej had about a break even week but did lack a lot on the study time. Work got a bit busy and as summer is around the corner there's a bit more work around the house. Def would have even less study time without the schedule so I won't be to hard on myself but on the other hand the play time went up. So old habbits die hard as it seems I play just to relax where I should or could do other things.

On a side note, I had to stop working out for over a week due to back problems. Started again this week and man am I feeling it. It's like a truck ran over me. But I think this will also help me to get in the good schedule of sport, meditation, work, poker, family.

April update

So by far best month ever resultwise. Felt like a lot of non poker stuff came toghether this month (decrease in workload, daily maditation, workouts & healthy lifestyle) that had a good influence on my poker playing (and results for now).

Sessions overview:

Main takeaways are:

:diamond: My game is not perfect (do'h)
:diamond: These streaks will happen in this heavy variance game
:diamond: Keep attention for mental aspect

Yh the above are the same as last month but pbb important for me when I will look back here in the future to treat the upswings not way to positive as I don't treat the downswing super negative. Eat, sleep, study, play, restart is the way to go.

Nonetheless very proud my coach has confidence to let me play NL100 (oh yes  ). last session off this month is a mix off NL50 and NL100.

About the small challenges these seem to be super effective as I haven't barely touched chocolat spread anymore eventhough it's "allowed". And surprisingly the mayo also went pretty fine.

:spade:March: Not eating chocolate spread
:spade:April: Not eating mayonnaise (not on events or anything like that)
:spade:May: No more unhealthy snacking after dinner - we will keep small candyvegetables in (cherry tomatoes, small candy cucumbers and carrots)
:spade:June:
:spade:July:
...
:spade: December:

Suggestions are still welcome (health, poker, sports,...)!

Happy grinding everyone!

May update

very weird month where I had weeks with full focus and weeks filled with other stuff. Got in some good volume and some good study time.

Sessions overview:

First 3 sessions are a mix with NL50 but switched to NL100 only for the rest of the month. I know the variance is high and the volume is small but I don't feel like I get outplayed on NL100 and I have a good notion of most spots. Off course still way more spots to dive into.

The coaching was a contract for a year and has ended this month but we will continue at least till august and see how far it brings us.
For june I have asked solver homework because it is still hard for me to search these spots from a certain hand to a more comon spot.
A second one is recording a session and explaining my thinking process as I play. This will be hard imo as you know you're opening up everything and might get some harsh news. But I know my coach and he's just great in approaching me in a good constructiv way.

:spade:March: Not eating chocolate spread
:spade:April: Not eating mayonnaise (not on events or anything like that)
:spade:May: No more unhealthy snacking after dinner - we will keep small candyvegetables in (cherry tomatoes, small candy cucumbers and carrots) - Have to say this is a hard one. It was less but deff more than zero :f_biggrin:
:spade:June: Posting a hand from every session
:spade:July:
...
:spade: December:

On the health part, weight seems to be under control (around 86kg) as I keep like 80% of my healthy habbits. Pla, is to not change it much for coming 3 months and fully focus on poker (and job :) ).

Suggestions are still welcome (health, poker, sports,...)!

Let's go!

I had a good structured start of the week but it fell apart as the weekend continued and life just happens. Enjoyed almost every part of it but have to think about how I will plan poker into the weekends as it feels much easier to have these moments during the workweek. Feels like it comes down to planning the unplannable like you planned an evening session but a familymember or friend stops by. You love to see them but you are in the zone for playing and maybe a bit annoyed.

Any tips are welcome here.
Btw I love my family and friends :)

June update

A bit later but ok. Cash game wise it was a good month running well and playing solid. Tournaments were a big dissapointement. With the APL there were some daily tournaments but yh not running good long enough to take some $. When the dust had settled I wa sup like $2 for the month :f_rolleyes:

Sessions overview:

As it was came close to my first 1k day. Profit that is as 1k losing days happend twice and also before :f_frown:

So on the other hand GG switched short deck buy in structure last month. As it is a niche game it passed without much noise. But being as it is the winrates are going down a lot. So we move and are getting used to the WPT software. For the moment no staking on that site as we agreed that it's important to get used to the field and software. But man those games are good over their. It's also 40a buy in but rake is way better and pool is softer. The fact that you don't have the option to run it twice makes that the swings are dazzling. 15Bi swings are more rule than exception, all ready had a +22BI session . BRM and mindset will be key so let's work on that!

One more thing. As I am playing for amounts this big it's sometimes hard to keep perspective in why I play poker (money, recreation, strategy, ... ).
This blog is now going on for over 2 years (that is crazy). Even more crazy is that I keep thinking money is my goal, just have like the freedom to have an account that always has 100k or so. Now in hindsight that money is far away (not impossible I think but yet very far away). What is reality every day is me thinking about spots, looking into hands, study solver and keep coachings going. I really enjoy the game and that has also value. Maybe most important is that the BR has grown steady on the side and I don't have the feeling like all I have from poker is $100/month.

July update

So as you can see almost no play on GG. The changes they made to the game are a bit cruel as it's only beatable with rakeback so not much sense in continuing over there.

On WPT the games are really good. Rake is okish but again WPT is making some changes so we'll have to wait out if the game will be running in the future. 1 person of the group decided to leave and switched to PLO. Some say PLO5 might be a cool game but honestly I don't feel very motivated to start learning another game.

At this site it's not possible to get HH and following your results. So only thing I can do is keep it in a sheet session by session. With my basic knowledge and help from google I managed to get a "graph" :)

Swings are even bigger here because you don't have the option to run it twice. Have to say it can be devistating during session if you follow those swings.

Volume wise I managed to get in some good numbers and not only in played hands (15k) but also study time (+20h). These hours do not include reading (a whole lot) strat stuff on different sites, poker books or watching vids. So I have the feeling after all this time I'm on a good track here and just have to ride it out.

At the end of the month BR passed the 4k mark wich is really nice. Looking back it feels nice to build something from a couple $100 to a couple $1k. Let's see where we can get!

August update

Volumewise I played over 30k hands and got in almost 18h study time.

Only played one site this month and what a month it was. Started on a huge heater followed bu some rollercoaster sessions. Was not always easy I can assure you guys but ok we have some experience in the bag with these swings and we have good BRM so far.

Also found that the meditation had a real impact on my focus and gave me the tools to not let poker(resuls) have an effect on my "real" life.

That being said it's always easier to say it after my biggest month this far. Was surprised it was only last month the BR passed the 4k mark where it's now close to the 6k mark
A big portion is that this was also the first month without staking as my BR was big enough to play the stakes "on my own".

On the other side my coach decided to quit (I hope he just takes a break) so my study mate and me are bit in the dark with how to go from here. The coach didn't stop out of the blue, he informed us a half year ago but ok when the time is near it's scary none the less. It will be a big test not to fall in old habbits. As part to make that sure I will commit myself to 1h of study each day (on average) so 30h for september that is. Volume wise I will not make goals and just play when I feel good and focussed!

September update

Happy to post that first month without the coach went really well. I tried to use the "fear" as fuel for extra study routine and being as sharp as possible on the tables.
Volume wise I got a bit over 20k hands and actually did study before each playing session.

Also spend like 4 half days "in the lab" and actually thought about the game and my game like I never had before. This reulted in actually putting up learning plans split out in tasks to grasp a total concept and evaluate stuff and you groth etc. If anyone read "purposeful practice for poker" it's those guidelines I apply. So yh surpassed the 30h study for sure (did not keep detailed trak of it anymore as it is a "to do" berfore playing"

Atm it's a bit hard to not be blinded by the lights (results) but also realize I had a 1.7k drop in the middle of the month.

Session overview

Tbh meditation felt away because work outs fell away (due to back problems) and I just know this needs to be picked up again if I want to be as strong as needed.

So obv for the coming month big goal will be to build new routine in work out (searching for excercises that are good for the back), meditation and food prep. This month I noticed I pbb need more sleep than I used to so ok will have to do some time table stuff again.
Also would be nice to finish the BR challenge but ok no pressure there. And off course I need to think about the second chapter in the diary as I don't want next challenge to just be about money but more about what (stake) can be reached for a "serious" player who has a full time job.

I also want to share that as reward for the last results I did get myself a nice secret lab chair and a poker book "Positive poker". Just started it and seems like a nice read. Chair is also amazing :)

:club: Happy grinding! :club:

So the best way to end a chapter is to see how it started and what I was trying to achieve.

In a very basic way my goals where to make money, on a regular basis, have fun and loose weight. So when you talk about bad goal setting there you go 😊.
With a lot of trial and error I learned I needed to break it all down part by part and work on small parts to reach a long term goal. These where poker related and surprisingly also a lot non poker related.

Again I only made it this far because of the support of my study group (2 of 5 made it till now) and of course my coach.

Interestingly enough when reaching the 10k roll I had a feeling like yes I made it. The feeling Kiddo had when she killed Bill. A week later, after some shots where taken on higher stakes combined with losing session, I realize I just moved my little toe.

But ok I will focus on being proud for making it this far and take the rest of the month preparing for my next chapter – becoming a semi pro!

Because we all like graphs:
