With half of the year passing by, it is time to look at my yearly goals :f_thumbsup:

1. Have 10 trips outside Lithuania, at least 1 country new to me
February - Paris, France FPS
March - Rozvadov & Madrid
May - Namur
June - Malaga

July - Cyprus
August - London
September - Barcelona

Right on pace with 5 countries visited and Belgium being the new one. Having tickets for another 3 festivals, I only need to plan additional two for completing the task. Next country on my list is Cyprus, the place that my wife adore the most. Good memories when we have been there 10 years ago, hopefully it didn't change much in that time :f_cool:

2. Extend Trophy board or ship Major MTT online event
Still empty this year :f_eek:

3. Reach Final Table in Sunday Million, GG Masters or any 1 Million Guaranteed event
There were some hopes recently in Global Millions, but my AK couldn't outrace my opponent's 77 :f_ugly:

4. Study poker 360 hours
January - 56 hours
February - 40 hours

March - 25 hours
April - 13 hours
May - 17 hours
June 7 - hours

26 weeks, 158 hours. After productive winter, the studying hours dropped a lot. Especially summer, when there are couple of close (myself included) birthdays, holidays, Euro championship and so on. Not sure if I can leapfrog again in July though :f_confused:

5. Experience of 10 educational trails in Lithuania
Silenai Hiking Trail
Ribiškių Educational Trail
Dvarčionių Healthy Trail
Anykščiai treetop walking path

There is one unique path in Lithuania which goes through the top of the trees. Not recommended for those who are afraid of heights, but in generally definitely worth visiting :f_cool:

6. Foster our Homestead
Fresh buttercups from our garden. The joy of my wife :f_love:

7. Reach 65k XPoints Total on French Duolingo
Another monthly challenge completed :f_drink:

8. Help Top Kickers team avoid relegation and have 10 attacking returns
A decent first half of the season for the team, sitting in the middle of the pack. Personally I have 3 goals but no assists, which is very rare for me :f_biggrin:

9. Read 12 books
Tim Marshall - Prisoners of Geography
Mark Galeotti - A Field Guide to the New Way of War
An Atlas of Extinct Countries - Gideon Defoe
100 Places You Will Never Visit by Daniel Smith
Dilogy "Peter's Empress" by Kristina Sabaliauskaitė
Onoré de Balzac „Le père Goriot“

Tesla: His Tremendous and Troubled Life by Marko Perko

2nd part of the year is started with biography of Genius - Nicola Tesla. I didn't know that he lived at the same time with Thomas Edison and even worked for him for many years. But as often the case with great talents, he had some issues with mental state and author of the book raises the question - does Hypomania help or hinder? Interesting read for sure :f_thumbsup:

10. Complete 10 Bucket List activities
Take part in Formula-1 weekend
Watch Live reputable football match in a stadium
Listen to a famous Concert
Listen to Live Opera
Attend a music Festival
Watch a performance in Theatre
Witness one of the new World Wonders
Set eyes on the Nature Wonder
Experience Sauna procedures
Organize outdoors event for friends

In two weeks we are heading to Hungary to finally start the hunt of my Bucket list :f_biggrin:

So overall, happy with my life in general, but my poker results are not shining. But as usually happens, I need only one deep run to make a great year, and hopefully my victory is lurking right under the corner :f_drink:

Bankroll Challenge 2024
Week 28

Weekly loses -859€
Last Update 16 014€
Current Bankroll 15 155€
Starting bankroll 10 000€
Goal Bankroll 60 000€

Good day Grinders :f_thumbsup:
Last week was not very successful, additional pain with two direct bubbles in both ESPT Barcelona and EPT Barcelona full package satellites :f_ugly:

PokerStars - 1200/2400 Ante 300 NL - Holdem - 4 players
Hand converted by PokerTracker 4

CO: 99.3 BB (VPIP: 36.73, PFR: 27.46, 3Bet Preflop: 17.57, Hands: 202)
BTN: 31.91 BB (VPIP: 17.89, PFR: 10.75, 3Bet Preflop: 9.09, Hands: 95)
Hero (SB): 16.23 BB
BB: 19.23 BB (VPIP: 22.95, PFR: 16.43, 3Bet Preflop: 13.46, Hands: 298)

4 players post ante of 0.13 BB, Hero posts SB 0.5 BB, BB posts BB 1 BB

Pre Flop: (pot: 2 BB) Hero has 5♣ A♦

fold, fold, Hero raises to 16.11 BB and is all-in, BB calls 15.11 BB

Flop: (32.71 BB, 2 players) T♣ 4♦ 5♠

Turn: (32.71 BB, 2 players) 4♣

River: (32.71 BB, 2 players) Q♣

(Pre 28%, Flop 85%, Turn 93%)
BB shows Q♠ A♥ (Two Pair, Queens and Fours)
(Pre 72%, Flop 15%, Turn 7%)
BB wins 32.71 BB

With 3 packages guaranteed and 4 players left, I found A5o on the SB. Standard shove once other players folded but unfortunately BB woke up with dominated hand. Flop gifted me a Five, But 93% on the Turn just increased the pain :f_biggrin:

Other satellite to EPT Barcelona worth 10k (Main Event, hotels and expenses included) started very well. With 3 players left and 2 places guaranteed I shared the chiplead with other guy, while one player was a shortie. And then those 3 hands happened :f_eek:

They say the summer is the best time for online poker as all the regs are in Las Vegas, but not for me :f_ugly: I didn't have a profitable week since the beginning of June, and that means my bankroll challenge barely moved from the starting point. And it won't move for another week as in couple of hours me and couple of my friends are starting a journey to Hungary. This time not for poker but for another Formula one experience :f_cool:

Good day Grinders :f_thumbsup:

After a thrilling week in Hungary, back to poker stuff A♥: Only had one short online session but it was a good one, a victory in a 33$ Bounty event. A much needed confidence boost before Dolce Vita series in Cyprus, where we are heading tomorrow. The Main Event is 2200$, the 2nd biggest buy-in in my career so I expect a tough field. But even my tournament ends fast, Cyprus is a perfect location to enjoy the sun :sfishy:

Hi Mantelo! Great photo, and nice polo shirt btw :f_drink:
Congrats on your participation at the Dolce Vita ME. Reaching a $2200 buy in is something to be proud by itself!

How was it?

I was wondering how do you MTT regular players have studied preflop game given the fact that the are SO MANY ranges and positions. Is just a matter of grinding enough to get used to them or is there a logical way to study them?

Thank you for your answer in advance! Have a great weekend!

Kind regards!

BIRJAAN

Hello Grinders :f_thumbsup:

First, thanks BIRJAAN for the post! Cyprus event was cool, although I busted out on Day2 before reaching the money. Buy-in of 2200€ is quite high on my standards but the skill level of opponents was not that impressive. Unfortunately I was card dead for most of the time, so I couldn't exploit the mistakes of my opponents and had to rest in the sauna/pool for longer time than hoped :f_biggrin:

Two days after Cyprus, I went to UKIPT London festival, where I finished 5th last year. No Final Table in the Main Event this time but still a deep run - 31st from 725 runners. 2 key hands happened just after I was moved to TV table. Firstly I was dealt QQ UTG and after some fireworks preflop, I found myself with 2/3 stack invested and facing AK2 on the flop. After some tanking I decided to give up (correctly), but my life only lasted one more hand - A♣:J♥: couldn't beat the same opponent's 7♦:7♥: preflop. However, next day I reached the Final Table in a 220€ Bounty evet - exited in 5th place, also holding 10 bounties :f_ugly: Overall, happy with my play in both events, with boosted confidence for soon coming Pokerstars' Barcelona festival :f_cool:

Real question is how that QQvsAK spot is not allin preflop. Was this guy actually planning to fold AK unimproved on flop?

He was a real wildcard at the table :f_ugly: Like cold4betting allin 33 for 100BB, Calling allins A8o for 50BB and so on. I have a strong feeling the money goes in even on J72 flop. In the end, I'm happy that he only flatted as it earned me another payjump of 400€ :f_cool:

I mean that's kind of the point that he should probably stack off almost any flop anyway. He need cEV wise like 20% equity to call. But if he is calling preflop to fold unimproved then his play is horrendous.

Nice post Mantelo! Honestly the pictures makes the story 100% better. It makes me wanna participate in some live events, but its hard to do it with a feeling that Im not good enough. I feel confident about my postflop game but not about my preflop range. I have a HU - Spin and go background experience which makes me feel kinda lost preflop in a 8max - 9 max table with so many positions and different ranges. Still, reading stories like this is a big incentive and keep my desire on fire to be able to classify events online and move around different parts of the world as you do!

Any tips for understanding preflop without just following charts? I find myself in tough spots when I face agressive 3bettors and I find myself OOP. Even when they seem to be super unbalanced, Im not sure what the best moves are (mostly deepstacked)
Because around 40bb's I think things are more white and black about this preflop situations. Am I wrong?

Thanks for you answer in advance!

Cheers!

BIRJAAN

Indeed, going to Live events is a huge motivator to still play poker. I love travelling to new places and this profession is very favorable for that :f_cool:

As technical part, preflop in this case, I'm not sure you can have a successful career without preflop charts. But as you mentioned yourself, you can't have the same ranges against all opponents. The simple way would be to have one value-heavy range against weak players and a more balanced range against Regs. Postflop is much more difficult, but if you are confident it this area, you should do great in tournaments overall :f_thumbsup:

I hoped that I will kickstart from successful London event, but online got me back almost to starting point :f_ugly: Not a single profitable session in a week and that puts some doubts in my head if my game is still profitable online. Some highlights from last week games:

*Entered 21! Global Millions 50$ qualifiers, but failed to reach day2 in all of them :f_eek:

*2nd most expensive tournament ended in cooler preflop

*the most expensive tournament pretty much sums up my week. Mp makes an open, me 3bet in the CO, and Akariee cold4bet jams 50BB effective.

Good day Grinders :f_thumbsup:
After the worst online week this year, soon after came the best one :f_ugly: Much needed confidence boost before my trip to Barcelona for ESPT festival. I'm planning to play on Thursday 1G flight with one more available flight in the evening. Hopefully it will be enough to progress to day 2, and even not, Barcelona is a nice city for sightseeing. It will be my first time here, so I'm sure I will have a great time, one way or another :f_drink:

Now back to Online poker. There was one more tournament I would like to highlight.

A deep run in 108$ Mystery Bounty tournament, although only collected one small Bounty prize. Wanna know how much a guy was gifted after he Rivered trips? Just look above his avatar :f_ugly:

Does these mystery bounties come from actual buyins or from extraordinary amount of rake GG is taking overall? That 42k is like 2/3 of whole pricepool.

I think Half of the buy-in goes to regular prize pool, half to bounties .This tournament was 600k guaranteed, so 300k should be set for bounties alone :f_cool:
