looks so weak, but what else then AK could he have?

99, TT, JJ are the only hands you beat on the river so you're right..

And I don't think he has any of these as he would raise flop, so your fold on river is OK for me // I would c/c river without Ace

opal99 is right.
His play is very exploitable if he is a reasonable TAG.
No TAG would ever check any pair here on the flop so this reduces his range to AQs+, AKo (maybe AQo).

The K on the turn improves him very often so he is either check/folding or he is check/rasing.
So I like your check behind very much.
