i'd also check behind here, too often dominated by higher rundowns if we don't hit the 6. UTG could also easily go for a c/r here, and i don't want to go broke with bottom 2-pair and a weak straight draw

I'd check this, too and I don't even think it's that close. This is a 4-way pot and we have 3 clean outs, very bad if any redraws and a lot of redraws against us. Betting can't be justified here.

are there any benefits in making a small bet in position? because our equity if its a headsup pot isn't that bad, although it was multiway to the flop so there is a massive chance we're behind.

well for what benefit? some hands will fold but usually these who have few equity anyway and you won't fold out hands that you're about even against or, more likely here, an underdog. I doubt you'll get the pot HU often here, esp. by a small bet. you also make yourself open to check-raises so checking behind here is better.

the aim of this line is to induce check/raises for the purpose of getting the hand headsup. in a headsup pot our equity increases by a ton because usually either our fullhouse outs are good, we clean up 2 of our straightdraw outs as we fold out someone's naked flushdraw, or we are actually ahead, because our opponent "just" has a wrap and a flushdraw, to which we have some blockers for.

The problem is that any hand that thinks it has enought equity to check/raise is probably leading this flop (combodraws) because your range for cbetting a drawy board in a 4-way pot is so narrowed and you'll check it back so often. Given that there actually are few if any hands which will take this line so that inducing won't work often.

The most likely result is an inflation of the pot which makes it harder to play on later streets since pot odds make it hard to fold a hand if you hit a counterfied out, so you increase the probability of making mistakes onn your side.
