      Good Evening,

I believe this is a good time to get started. First post on the board.

About myself, my name is Dan & I am from Sydney, Australia. I am 28 years old with a beautiful family consisting of my wife & two girls. I work full time for a global mining support company. Aside from poker my other hobbies include gaming, powerlifting, camping & fishing. Right now in my life I am making a decision to elevate two of those hobbies into more serious pursuits. With initiation of this blog one of those will be poker, while the other is powerlifting. Gaming will be greatly reduced to make way for poker.

I have recreationally played poker for quiet some time now, I would but it around 7 years. My main choice of play has been MTT & SNG. I have occasionally dabbled in cash games but in all honesty it was hard & did not have an end goal in my mind set. The grind did not seem appealing in any way when I could play a MTT/SNG & have a target to win. I would do fairly well with MTT/SNG & can not remember the last time I have deposited without ever pulling the cash out to use it elsewhere.

Now with the goal to raise my investment of time into poker, I have found those two formats lack flexibility. With the bulk of my free time transition from gaming to poker, I now want to accept what is hard & will apply goals going forward. Over the past week I have had tried my hand at speed/zoom cash games, with the last few days being 6 max. I have quiet enjoyed it & will be looking to progress with cash games as my focus. I will occasionally throw in an MTT just for variety.

      Now lets layout some goals.

      Yearly
      * Obtain bankroll to stake at NL25 6max zoom by the end of 2015
      * Play 200,000 hands by the end of 2015 (Updated @ 15/01/2015)
      * Study 260 hours over the year
      * Sign up for Bankroll Challenge
      Weekly @ 15/01/2015
      * Play 2250 hands
      * Study 5 hours per week

Goals in relation to study materials will get more specific going forward.

I really started this on Monday. Current winnings result sits below & it has not gone to well. Though after watching a couple of videos when I hit around 3100 hands has dramatically improved my play in my opinion. Unfortunately I just have not had the best of luck with the cards on the board. Except for that very last drop where I started to tilt, which led me to start the blog :f_biggrin: Next post will have some hands to review.

      Cheers

      Dan

I closed after this one. I thought I would try & get a bet from opponent then shove. I also should have folded on the button after the re raise. I was "thinking" nah can't happen again right....

#5 Unsure on my play with a win

I am unsure on if I did really play this right. Not much on as not many hands just like the rest but his VPIP & PFR were quiet high. Pre flop it was a steal with a decent hand. On the flop standard CBet, he than raises & I don't believe he would have just called BB v steal with 88, possibly 22 but doubtful. Put him on the flush draw so shoved for a flip, 68% EV in HM2.

      He dkae2168,

how are you doing? Nice to have you in our little challenge!
We are trying to give a weekly or at least bi-weekly update of everyones challenge. Just to make sure we include you - don't forget to post your update in our Get Rich or Die Tryin' - The Bankroll Challenge - Reporting thread thread, it's due every Monday!

Btw, on the last hand - the only thing that you reasonably get called with & that you have beat is a flushdraw. I'd be willing to call the raise on the flop and go with the hand from the turncard. I almost never see villains playing 22 or 88 fast - the board is not drawy enough except for the FD.

      Good Evening SvenBe,

Thank you for the heads up & input. For the Get Rich or Die Tryin' thread I have no hand updates.

As for my last week of the blog, we have the following.

      Weekly Hit:
      Hands:
      3561 / 4650 = -1089 hands
      Study:
      3 / 5 = -2 hours study

I am satisfied for the first week, the goals above were not set before the week. My hand target will need to be reviewed as I will be dropping to 1 table. Study has been eye opening with range construction vs positions.

      Now off to the tables!

      Cheers

      Dan

      Mid Week Update

Going to scrap the daily goals as they are not flexible enough. For example I studied 1 1/2 hours on Wednesday instead of playing. But study has definitely paid off over the last few sessions. Still maintaining one table play, but am definitely getting a better feel for what & where I should play on the table. Updating my current weekly goal for hands.

Have not had any real hard hands, just playing basic poker & sticking to strategy set which is mainly pre-flop.

      Hands: 644
      Study: 1 1/2 hours

      Thanks Vonki

So the week is done, I did not hit the volume as per my goal which is unfortunate. My first week back at work is now out of the way & my routine is starting to set in again, next week I will hit that target. I did have a great family BBQ last night at home, was a big day of prep & enjoyment :f_drink:

On the other hand, I did not leak all week. All profit my friends :f_thumbsup:

Thanks SDK & what a welcome back it is....

I could not get a hit or piece of anything at all. Or when I did, I would get drawn out by a better hand from their scrappy hands. Couldn't even try & push some angles for folds.... meh. See how tomorrow is.

I still made mistakes & have more improvement.

I have a very bad habit of not letting go of what was the best hand .....

keep in mid that x/c flop, x/c turn and donk pot size river it's a very strong line in general from the fish especially when a draw completes on the river. 1/2 pot size you can take in consideration to call but higher for sure is not +EV at least to call with TP

      Hi Teddy,

I will be completing my goals in the end. My soft side was taking to gaming in my free time. I fixed that by removing all games on my PC except for poker :f_thumbsup:

      Session for today:

Losing less which is an improvement. Working on my post flop play which will hopefully fix some leaks. In trying to do this I did turn my aggression down to much & lost some hands just by calling for no real reason. Working through w34z3l's microstakes walkthrough & I am up to odds which I am trying to implement. Some hands:

#1 - From this hand I do no have the equity to call his turn bet, should have folded there. If not than I should have let it go on the river again. I did not think of QJ in his range & only focused on the thought he had J. I did not think he had a straight due to his lead on the turn.

      Final Board: 7 J 2 Q K
      SB showed Q J and won $2.91 ($1.39 net)
Hero showed K T and lost (-$1.52 net)

#2 - This one I thought he would have had a set, could also have been playing me or called with low suited connector due to min raise open to 3b call IP. Should I have checked the flop? I don't like the OOP plays & try to take down the pot on cb. It is a bit harder on 888 with no hud to reference stats, drying to allocate as many notes as possible.

      Good Evening,

Had a hot run for this afternoons session & on top of that I did not leak massively :f_thumbsup:
High sets & quads on many flops with no draw outs. Really working on trying to get as much value out of my hands as possible.

Will have some hands later tonight, need to shoot off & for some reason HM2 is having a spit.

      Cheers

Second session of the day, again profit :f_grin:
This was first time doing 2 table as well, had a couple of slip ups - old (1 day old haha) leaks came through.

      Some hands for the day.
#1 - Will start off with a dud, the leak :f_o: Just straight up aggressive betting to pay someone off. Really would have been a better approach to pot control more & think ahead. Less pay off to opponent than as well.

#2 - Throw in the best hand of the day with my quad hit - did I get enough value out of the hand? I think I could have got more out of his two pair, but only put him on the A.

#4 - Another lay down, another with no notes on opponent. There was some time variance with his turn bet time compared to others, I took that as opponent working out if he wanted to call for a flush shot. River hits flush. Possibly had the K & was thinking of if he should re raise with set. Either way I was beat & shot the river at a chance to take down the pot.

      Thanks Andre

Well phew tonight was a rough one. I made so many mistakes which put me almost -3 buy ins. I was not giving respect to re raises at all without nut hands :f_mad: . I kept pushing through & really wanted to get in the black, which I did. I think this shows I can definitely win at this limit, I just need to cut out the stupid moves. Unfortunately I only seem to do that after I have already done it in a session... I am happy with the work to come back, now I need to not end up in that position to start off with!!

Will employ a pre session ritual where I go over points where I am weak & need to avoid. From the hands I should have laid down, my session should have been up 2 buy in at least. I am also still leaking quiet a bit OOP & need to work on that.

Example of leak, I think I should have B the turn to close out pot, but I tried to get more value. With his river raise I should have admitted defeat & fold:

I would say good laydown? I say has set flop, full house on the turn or at least an overpair. Could fold the flop, but I have been successful in taking pots with call raise on flop & lead turn with such a board.

Throw in the graph of progress below. For this week I hit the following:
      Hands = 7,349
      Won = -$7.98
      BB/100 = 0.57

In relation to my previous goals, I think just the goal to play poker every day for as many hands as possible is working well :f_thumbsup:

Time to rest & make sure I don't forget the mistakes tomorrow!!

      Cheers

      Well tonight was frustrating....

I did not leak as bad but I just could not get much, still have an issue with RR. Lines didn't come through, my aggression would get smothered by re raise quiet a bit. I couldn't hit to much or everyone would fold / opponent would hit better. After the last bad beat I had to call it enough :f_frown:

Classic Dan, call the RR :f_eek:

I think I got away from this one well. Join the 3 way with AKo as BBvEP&SB, flop gives me gutshot, call the min bet. EP after me raises to 3/4 pot & SB calls, so I than have the odds & make the call. Turn pairs with the board, SB min bets again, now my odds are shot & the strong lead by EP has me see him with j10+ so I fold. He does a large bet & gets called. NExt card hits my straight but it is well in his range for a full house.

Did not see this coming... I missed the min raise pre - might have been able to lay down. I was thinking AQ, KQ, QJ. I did not put him on flush/straight due to the turn call, would be a sick chase. Idk it was a river raise again.....
