5900 chips, 400/200 blinds
AKs middle position
hero raise to 900
hero showed TT, KK, AQ, AA, AQ so far so he got tight image I guess

SB instapushes 10,500 chips
villain unknown, seemed tight so far

assuming 99+ AK his range, I was hard pressed to fold, what do you think?

hero equity 43% against villain's presumed range, slightly favorite (51%) if we include AQ in his range, which I doubt given stacks and his instapush

What's the correct action here for hero?

i would push. you are in really bad shape only against AA . Against KK you are around 33% i think which is not that bad.

he could easily have AQ ,JJ,QQ and even TT .

that's just imo cause i don't really like playing with low M's so i would seize an opportunity like this to double up :)

factors that favor the push :

you are already ITM but still a long way from 1st place.
you are at a very tough table and it's hard to outplay your opponents.
you need to establish the image that you won't give up your raises so easily so people will be less inclined to make a move on you.
you have 2-3 bigstacks that keep bullying the table
you don't have time to finish the tournament :)))

factors that favor folding :

you are very close to make it ITM .
you have one or 2 fish at the table which will give you their chips later
you really think he would make that play only with AA and KK.
there are a lot of shortstacks at the table so someone will make a desperate move soon

it's zoooted so push.

now seriusly AKs is just too strong to fold , you were raising from mp ( mp#? ) so he may go over the top with AQs , flipping here is not the worse thing in the world really and you might as well be ahead of that range.

spit22: almost all factors that you listed for folding were true, while almost none of the ones favoring the push
I had a very tight image, doubled up twice recently (2 hands ago) with very good holdings, similar preflop action

alejandro: he had 10,500 chips, I had around 6000, I couldnt see him doing it with AQ/AJ risking being crippled. I raised from mp2 or mp3 I think, that was the reason why I ended up calling, although my guts were telling me to fold it. I thought he had a pair for sure.

I didnt know if it's better to flip or fold in this scenario, as I still had a good-ish stack compared to the rest of the table even if I folded.
In the end I shipped it, as it was an ace and a king, even zooted, and I couldn't help myself from gambling :)

He had 99 which won the gamble and I went busto.
What about his play? If I were in his place, with 10k chips, would a ship with nines be correct against 6k chips, with just one other player left to act (the BB)?

I don't like that ship with nines too much for half of his stack, also he is either flipping or way behind when called. maybe if he tought you were stealing from mp3 , it shouldn't be that bad of a gamble there. Since you raised to 4.5bb preflop ( why ? ) raise/folding is not an option anymore, I still don't like it if you were tight and it's a 10 m stack he is risking.

but since he insta pushed he probably was thinking "omg a pair, I'm all in" against your calling range 22 runs almost as bad as 99

Blinds were 200/400 I raised to 900 from MP3. That could explain it I think...

oh noes, my math again

sorry

as long as i dont have ROCK ROCK ROCKYBALBOA stats on him this is a call for me
your chipstack is low, the blinds are high, so this is 100% the time to go all in with your AKs.
i would be very happy to call here

and even against rocky balboa i would call.

if you fold here, you are criplled in the process. so its time to go for it
