Sorry in advance for the long post, but kind of a cathartic thing for me to tell my poker "life history".

I am a relatively experienced player, been playing off and on for ~3+ years with at certain points very nice success. Like so many I started playing after watching on Tv and thinking "hell, I can do that!". As it turned out i had an acct on a sports betting/casino site that I had won through a free contest. I'm not much for gambling per se, so the money was just sitting there until I downloaded the poker client they had and started playing. I got up about 50 bucks pretty quick and withdrew that money - my first poker winnings!!! (In reality because of this I have never spent any of my "own" money on poker). After that withdrawal though I hit a down patch and since the free acct I had won was 300 dollars and I could only withdraw amounts over that level, when I got down to like 180 everything felt pointless so I played 50 dollar sng's and of course lost the rest. I then quit playing for a while (like i said - off and on).

Some months later I decided to give it another shot, but now with my own money so that anything I won or lost would be mine to withdraw at any time. I deposited 20 bucks. ~9 months later (playing very part time) I had increased my roll to 500+. Things were going well and I was feeling very comfortable. Then the shitty thing happened, the site took down their client and removed poker from their offerings. SIGH!!! 500 bucks is great in an acct, but when I was forced to withdraw it and it was suddenly "real money in the real world" I just couldn't bring myself to deposit it straight into another site (and we did need it at the time). So I quit playing for a while again.

Got the itch again and deposited 20 bucks again at a new site. After a few months I am up at ~400. Then the bad times happen. Terrible run and I lose it. Am down to 310 cuz of donkeys so I make the brilliant decision of "if you cant beat 'em... join 'em!!!" and promptly tilt away another 200 bucks down to 110 in about 45min on a way too high level. ( At least I made the dude sitting at the table who took pretty much all 200 of it happy :D ). Was at least smart enuff at this point to cash out remainder and still had technically made 90 profit from original deposit. Took another break for several months.

Since then I have deposited 20 bucks at a couple sites and had brief success but (+160 at one site) but tilted it away again during downswings. I had not played for probably a year, when I decided to try again last fall. Then I found a site (competitor of pokerstrategy?) that offered no deposit free bankrolls. I didnt even know that was possible! Sounded awesome! I know I can win, I've done it before, and if I can just remain calm (huge reason i had tilted other times was becuz of stress in the personal life due to long commutes and stuff - but that time was over.... i thought ;) ). Get the first bonus through that site and play a bit and stay pretty much even for a month, but when i realize there is no extra bonus as was stated, i decide to take another sites 10 + 25 dollar bonus and actually manage to clear 15 of the bonus (although i was credited 2x with 10 bucks for misstakes in their calculations of my ffp, so that was very nice!!) and turn the original 10 into 50+ (only like 5+ through actual play, but hey, it's all good!).

Since this whole "free money" thing seemed too good to be true i wanted to get all the bonuses this other site could offer (thought it was the only site that existed like this) i signed up for their bonus at fulltilt. Now is where i really have been frustrated lately. I had to take another job commuting during the fall, so couldnt play hardly at all, but had 4 months to clear bonus so started playing now in January. But I HAVE BEEN TOTALLY CRUSHED BY A VICIOUS DOWNSWING! I mean, if there is a way to lose a hand that I didnt manage to lose it would be a miracle. Got my money in time after time good so that i should have increased the roll to well over 100, but instead was sub 30, despite clearing 45 of the 50 extra bonus. So just recently I tilted away (hopefully my last tilt ever, at least at that scale) my last free money there. (Have to say i didnt really like ft anyway, and have read some posts and threads that verify and confirm some of my feelings).

Anyway, as i said, i thought this other site was the only one of its kind. But lo and behold! I find pokerstrategy.com and check it out. And it seems awesome in the couple days I have been here. I have found another site that has some free poker rolls too and will probably use it at some point (I mean - free money is still free money), but want (and need) to take things one at a time now. Not try to chase several bonuses at several sites. And I want to have a community that feels right. Neither of the other sites feel any fun at all, but here it feels right on many levels. So I will soon decide which site I want to get my start capital on and try to earn a bunch of strategy pts and and a bunch of money (and hopefully not get downswinged into oblivion again). One thing I know I have been missing is the downswing forum here. I have needed somewhere to go and just vent, and other forums all you ever get is "shut up crybaby" kind of posts.

Well, enuff from me for now i guess (probably nobody left reading this far anyway :D ). Hope to be a good member of this site and take advantage of all there is on offer here and give something back in turn.

Wow, thats some introduction, nice :D

Welcome to PokerStrategy dnalloh, good to see you.

Liking your honesty in your post regarding tilting etc, big respect to you for that.

Cannot recommend strongly enough that you read & re-read carefully the strategy articles (some of which you will need to get Bronze status for = earn 1+ PokerStrategy Points), in particular those that focus on BRM (Bankroll Management) and Psychological aspects to the game.

It's not easy refining your poker if you've played before, believe me I know lol :D ), but these guides offer you excellent chance of plugging small leaks in players games which in the longer run will reap rewards.

Can also highly recommend the live coaching sessions and browsing the forum sample hands on a regular basis, it's surprising what you can pick up.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi, compliment you on your williness to learn and hope to see a dnalloh blog started soon ;)

Wishing you every success, good luck.

These are very wise words and i would recommend in order to help you become a better and more consistent player.

We all at some point in our poker journeys have or will have some badbeats, downswings, tilt moments but DON'T TAKE IT PERSONAL - ITS JUST ONE OF THEM DAYS. Its how we learn to deal with these moments that separates us from those that cant.

      Regards,

      -Steve

Thanks for the responses guys! Things have started for me now, took the start cap on mansion and have played some. But as is my usual luck, i got sick right after getting the cash, but of course wanted to play anyway and have made some stupid decisions (beyond just playing period when not feeling well). Nothing catastrophic, but had a few things happen that dropped me to 42 now.

Anyway, i DO plan on starting a blog at some point, and will definitely avail myself of the hand analysis threads and stuff, but right now i just need to get into a rythm in life. Won't go into everything here, but things have been tuff here for awhile and i am frustrated in general. Not the best way to play poker. I know i am far too impatient right now. At least the bonus on mansion has a very long time limit.

I feel like i am rambling, as i said, i am sick right now. Bottom line i meant to say anyway was simply, thanks. I will be more active in the future.
