Hi Everyone
OK the title is slightly tongue in cheek !
About me:
Bryan is my real name, and the MAGIC bit of my nickname is a bit of fun from when I used to be a hobbyist/semi pro Magician. I live in Nottingham, England, UK.
I am 55 years old but young at heart, and always willing to learn something new. I have been playing Poker for about 3 years now, mostly on-line at micro stakes, but sometimes at local casinos in low buy-in freezeouts. I have read a few books on Poker and subscribe to three Poker magazines, so I am not exactly short on knowledge,
I feel I am probably typical of many Poker players, in that I have had my share of wins and places in STT's and have final-tabled a few times at local casinos, but if I am honest, I have been an overall loser. The principle reason I feel in my case, is leaks in my game, obviously, and A LACK OF FOCUS
I have looked back at some things I have achieved in my life, and noticed that whenever I have achieved anything really worthwhile (such as when I first ran a Marathon), I was totally focused. That is why I have highlighted those words above, and it is what I believe POKERSTRATEGY will give me.
Pokerstrategy and this blog
Listen to me talking about my blog will you? Not so long back I didn't know what a blog was !!
Anyway, I hope this blog will be of interest to others as you will be able to follow my progress from humble beginnings to Poker superstardom lol
I joined Pokerstrategy by chance from following a posted link, and something clicked straight away. I could envisage myself following the basic sss strategy to clear my bonus and build my bankroll, as I gradually move up the ranks, unlocking further knowledge only as I need it. It seems like a career path almost(I'm sorry I don't know what came over me there I got carried away).
Basic sss strategy
If this really has been calculated by experts to be proven over time, who am I to argue? These good people have given me $50 and told me this is the best way to achieve early success with the $50, so I am putting my faith in them and doing it. That way I can be sure that I have eliminated all my own leaks and given myself the best start. Posts on the forums that start off with eg “... I have followed basic sss and lost lots of money...” usually then go on to detail ways in which they clearly have not been following basic sss.
The PS story so far
I joined on 23/3/03 and passed the quiz 25/3/03. I decided to join Full Tilt, as I wanted a big site where I knew I would get the games I wanted, and I already have an account with Pokerstars.
I will try to round this post up quickly now as I don't want to waffle on too much on my initial post and deter people from reading this blog.
Just so people understand though, that may not be on Full Tilt:
The $50 is released by attaining 835 Full Tilt Points (FTP's) in 120 days. The bonus is not released at one go, but in increments of $5 each as you progress.
So far, on this site, I have been inspired to try multi-tabling, and, since sss basic strategy requires that you fold most hands, this was an ideal opportunity for me to try this out. As such I currently – due to working full-time etc - am limited to playing for an hour or two per day, which I try to play four tables as much as possible, and am now handling this fairly easily (having never multi-tabled before there's progress already look!).
I have played for over two weeks and results have tended to be up and down, but not straying above or below the starting point by more than around $5(rather worryingly, the first few sessions were losing ones, which I put down to variance and carried on faithfully).
I won't post every days results to now as what I have said above sums it up. I will reproduce here todays figures, not because they are particularly good or bad, but simply because they are todays figures- the first day of this blog. I will from now post daily updates.
Balance = $56.83 (includes $5 first increment of my $50 released)
FTP = 343.22
Bonus Earned = $9.46
Next bonus release in 8.83 FTP's
So you can see that I have received my first $5 and am very close to receiving my next $5, again this is progress. At this rate too, if I can continue to play at this rate, I should clear the whole bonus well within the 120 days, providing my bankroll stays intact.
Aims/goals
I will finish now with some indication to you of how I will achieve poker superstardom:
short-term
Read all Bronze level articles
Watch all bronze level videos
see live coachings whenever possible
achieve and retain silver status
Longer term
achieve and retain Gold status
General outside Pokerstrategy
To play in the DTD monthly £300 tourney paid for from my poker winnings
To ultimately play and final table major tournaments eg EPT, WPT , GUKPT WSP etc
Sorry for this initial post being so long, but I had to lay the foundations. I hope you return, and I will promise that future posts will be shorter, will chart my progress and I will hopefully try to entertain along the way too so keep watching this space
GL all at the tables
