Hello fellow PokerStrategists!

Once you move up to the higher limit, you will have to become more flexible and deviate from the ABC strategy in order to keep playing the SSS profitably.

The main reason is that playing according to a chart becomes too predictable and opponents will be able to exploit your weaknesses easily.

One of the parts which offer the biggest room for improvement is the stealing and re-stealing game. Adjusting your re-stealing range to your opponents will help you boost your win rate tremendously, if done right.

Question 9 assumes that we have 0 fold equity. Shouldn't we have at least have some fold equity here, thus making the resteal profitable?

Hey.

I thought the same thing when translating the quiz, but I guess they want to assume our opponents play perfect against us in order to be completely unexploitable in the stealing/re-stealing area. On higher limits, this certainly gets more flexible.

I did some quick calculations for how fold equity affects the profitability of our resteal:

Using Q9's example

Dead Money: $2.00
Total Pot (after you go in and villain calls): $19.00 (assuming $1 rake)
Amount you have left (after posting blinds): $9.50

Expected Value = (FoldEQ*$2) + ((1-FoldEQ)*($19*EQ - $9.5))

We can find the Equity needed by solving the equation for EV=0 and putting in a guesstimate of FoldEQ

FEQ - EQ Needed
0.00% - 50.00%
10.00% - 48.83%
20.00% - 47.37%
30.00% - 45.49%
40.00% - 42.98%
50.00% - 39.47%
60.00% - 34.21%
70.00% - 25.44%
80.00% - 7.89%
90.00% - -44.74%

I would think against many SB steals, FEQ should be >50%, so it has a very big effect on the profitability of our resteals.
