I'm never ever folding this river. In pretty much most games folding top pair is a big no-no for limit holdem without some ridiculous read that opponent never raises worse than 2 pair on the turn.

That said I expect to be beat a lot of the time, but on the few occasions I'm ahead it makes the call profitable.

Cheers for the advice! My biggest fear was the FD - as the turn card completes it.

I had no real read on the guy, which is why I decided to fold it - though in future I'll bear in mind what you've said.

We only have to be correct 1 in 8 times (12%) for this call to be correct. I think since villains range includes hands like K♠ K♦ and maybe K :spade:Q at a push it's an easy call.

Hello, unfortunately your hand isn't strong enough to play preflop. A raise in UTG1 is a strong hand like 99+, ATs+, KQs, AQo+. You are the the second player in the pot and you are not sitting in the big blind, so your choice is 3-bet or fold. Don't coldcall, even if you are in the small blind. You wouldn't even defend your hand if you were sitting in the big blind. Extended charts for playing before the flop

On the flop you hit top pair but you have to consider the strength of your kicker. As you see in the range above, your kicker is not so good against UTG1 kickers. You beat most of his pockets and KQs. You have not many outs against you except for KQs which has 4 outs in 3 out of 4 cases and 11 outs in one case.

You have only a small advantage. If you play strongly, you may get his weak hands to fold (TT/99) which have very few outs against you and may give you another bet on the turn or on the river. You will always pay in full against his better hands. So there is not much to gain from aggressive play. It is much like a way ahead way behind situation. Let your opponent make the bets and call him down only.

This also shows how poorly AT fairs against a UTG1 raising range. You hit your best card and don't even get a significant advantage.
