From noob to donkey to average player to...(hopefully) QUARTER-PRO.
I've been playing poker for about two years now and I can say I have some experience with this game.
I started with SSS which gave me good foundation and understanding of basic rules and logic behind Texas Holdem. Going through different levels taught me many things about the game and myself. While having ups and downs every player needs to understand how to deal with it and how it affects you. I managed to go through it or so I thought. I was successfully playing at NL50 and had some attempts on NL100 which were more or less unsuccessful. Withdrawing the money was rational decision back then because I wasn't ready to invest more time in poker and that could be seen in my results.
After a while I got few € so I started with SNGs which I grinded to $5 but again downswing came and I had to step down to $2. I've been going up and down until I realized it's really waste of my time so I withdrew the money with intention to quit poker for good.
After almost a year out of poker I got another $25 in December and decided to start playing SH cash game. Since I didn't have any expiriences with BSS most things were new for me. Not in sense of theory but mostly because of being out of shape and practice pokerwise. Also it was very hard to adjust that people mostly don't use fold button on NL2. Again I was playing only now and then and that is definitely not a good strategy. If I don't play for 2 weeks I need one week to come back and meanwhile I have to compensate negative effects of coming back (in $$$).
If I look carefully the circle repeats every single time, from SSS to SNGs and now cash games. I progress very fast but when I have to show myself how good I'm I just duck and quit. Of course I don't have time and energy to play only poker but at least I should give myself a fair opportunity. So I said – that's enough! Deciding to stop something is quite easy, changing it is far more difficult. Now I was in dillema whether to quit for good or give myself a real chance. Obviously I decided to try one more time.
Starting today I'm taking poker more seriously…which means I'll have to:
1) Play/learn at least 1h per day -> doing this every single day will be almost impossible with my other responsibilities but I'll try to follow it as much as possible
2) Play at least 20k hands per month -> In the beginning I won't install any poker software so ptr will be my main guidance about hands played. This will be important for me because I couldn't play big volume poker month after month and with this resolution I won't have any choice but to do it.
3) Adopt professional attitude
- setting goals -> at the beginning of each month I'll set myself goals and at the end of that month I'll review it and make a conclusion of every month. Striving towards higher goals should be good motivation for me.
- analyzing hands played -> Since site where I currently play doesn't support Elephant I won't be able to analyze my own hands. I'm planning on buying HM when I reach NL20. Meanwhile I'll have to find a way to import all of my hands so I can review them because I know from my previous experiences how much every player gains by going through his hands.
- posting hands on forums -> This is also very helpful and I haven't been practising it until now. I think I should do it regularly.
- analyzing hands from other players -> I'll try to comment other people hands as much as possible. At the same time that will be big contribution to my game too.
- watching videos -> This is one of the things that really helped me keep improving my game and especially understanding of some critical areas. Seeing correct play is very useful but even more useful is seeing wrong play and hearing it why was it wrong and where exactly should be played differently. I will try to go through all of videos available to my status.
- read articles/ books -> Since I will be playing on site which is not linked with pokerstrategy I won't get any points so I won't be promoted to higher ranks therefore bronze+ articles won't be available for me at the moment. I intend to move my br to some pokerstrategy linked site as soon I will be able to clear any of first deposit bonus. Until then I'll go over articles that are available to me and also I'll try to read some books or gudes about sh and cash game.
- Participate in public coachings -> I've never done that so I'll have to try it.
- Play when I'm fresh and ready -> until now I've been mostly playing poker whenever I could, not matter how tired/ sad/ uninterested/ not in the mood/... I was. I knew that is -EV but I did it anyway. I'll try to avoid doing this from now on.
- Think about poker and try to improve myself as much as I can -> Every day is a new opportunity and I'll try to grab as many as I can.
Short term goals:
- Update this blog as much as possible because that will mean I actually follow my plan
- Progress as much as possible in every prospect of the game
Mid term goals:
- Buy HM
- Play low stakes comfortably
- Improve myself and my game even more
Long term goals:
- Strive to improve even more
- Play low stakes comfortably
- Progress and take shots at medium limits
Starting BR: $118,09.
