i would raise preflop.

Raise preflop idd.
Right now, I don't think you're dominated, though some hands like QT or AT could easily have won it.

But SHC doesn't say to raise PF in this situation. (yes, I'm using SHC from PokerStrategy now :P)

AJ is always a raise or a fold. Or are you hoping for a J high flop maybe ?

But the SHC for BSS says:
If I'm holding AJ, on the blinds, someone calls, I should call as well.

You guys hate me. :P
If I play Sklanky's PF Strategy, you disagree. If I play PokerStrategy SHC, you also disagree. :(

Well, I ain't got anything against you ... I just can't understand why anyone would merely completly complete his small blind with AJo. It just seems more logical to raise it up, to isolate. Any AQ or AK would've raised anyway...

I know you got nothing against me, I'm just kidding. :P

I'm just following the BSS SHC.

Well, next time, just keep in mind that the starting hand chart is made to protect the newbiest of newbies from squandering away their money and keeping their downswings to an absolute minimum. After all, PokerStrategy wants them to survive long enough to learn the basics.

So that's why they recommend to fold or flat call in some cases when a raise would be better... for absolute newbies who aren't good at handling postflop situations yet, it's better to make EV0 decisions than EV- decisions. However, once you know how to play postflop pretty well, you can raise PF a little more and make normal EV0 decisions change into a EV+ decision, given it's well played postflop.

Btw: your sign is wrong. Poker isn't like sex. I'd never start on the lowest limits for experience ...

You're right, but for now I'm gonna stick to it, just moved up to a new limit, changed rooms... haven't been doing too well, have suffered quite a few beats, and made some mistakes as well (and a little bit costly ones)... and after 3k hands, I'm breaking even.

LOL!!!

EDIT: But what did you think about postflop play in this hand?

No real comments. I'd probably bet a little less myself on the turn and river, I might even play check/call on the river, but this is ok too.

Not really a mistake to see a cheap flop with AJ cause it´s quite a crappy hand and you are out of position but i would check\fold the turn and check\call the river against 1 opp. Aggression out of position with less then premium hands on the later streets is one of the bigger mistakes you can make.

Against passive players bet/fold flop, bet/fold turn and bet/fold river is fine.

I´d play the same. You `re OOP for the rest of the hand ,so I don´t think raise pf is the right move

Raise > Complete

You have only 1 limper Utg ->he has probably a pocket pair and will fold to a flop bet very often
you are most of the time Headsup and can win the pot very often with
a continuation bet
you get dead money from the blinds
And Aj is not a bad Hand

When you have 2 limpers complete >>> raise
When your position is more important
and playing multiwaypots oop is not great

When the Utg limper is tight and the Big Blind, too
you can raise a lot of hands because they are set mining and fold to every
flop bet
when you know that these players dont float you can raise
all kind of hands 67s,98o all 2 facecards, Axo and Axs i dont like that much
but they are ok too.

This concept is called isolation raise vs 1 player oop
Normaly you make this only IP but when you have tight, non floating
Tags its + ev.

Important DONT isoraise oop vs:

-Fish
-Lags
-18/2 stats players
-Pf-slowplayers "i limp AA because alse
i only bet the blinds" guys ..
- Floaters, Callstations
- More than 1 player
-when a Fish is behind you

The best victim ist the 14/10 multitabling TAG

As played:
very nice hand postflop
if you fold to every Turn or river action

When he minraises you have to fold
besides the great odds.
