What could I have done here to play this hand better?

2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 2 folds, SB calls, Hero checks.

Flop: 7♦ 6♠ 2♠ ($1, 4 players)
SB checks, Hero bets $0.5, MP1 calls, 2 folds.

Turn: 8♥ ($2, 2 players)
Hero bets $1.5, MP1 calls.

River: 5♦ ($5, 2 players)
Hero is all-in $2.75, MP1 calls.

Results:

1) Don't give away villain's hand before any evalutions have been made
2) You're playing SSS. According to SSS guideline, top pair no kicker is not a made hand. You'd needed to have an ace kicker to proceed this way.
3) Despite your error, it's still unlucky and he played his hand worse than you played yours ... that's poker.
