just wondering if anyone lives in Manchester and as been to the casinos? i was just wondering if anyone has been to G Casino, or any of the Grosvener Casinos and if they were any good?
what were the tourneys like? any decent cash games? were the soft or were there players of decent standard?
Ive just moved here and any help at all would be great!

I'm not far from Manchester but haven't got to one of the casino's yet. Apparently G casino have regular tourneys with a £20-ish buy in which is pretty soft but the blind structure means you need to be a bit of a luck box to win.
If you're looking for someone to head down there with drop me a pm... I keep meaning to go but don't know anybody local who plays.

yeah i was looking at the structure and the starting stack seems so low, that you wouldnt even have time to play really unless u get an early double up!

I'd prefer to play cash but I don't know what the tables are like and what limits are available... The most I could probably afford to take to a casino is 100 quid so if the lowest limit is 1\2 I might not last too long.
What would you prefer to play?
yeah i prefer cash game but im partial to a 60/70 seater tournament if the starting stacks are like 10K to 15K freezeouts!
i believe G casino and Grosvenor Casino in Salford offer 50/1 with £200 max buy in which would suit you and me! im the same i would prob only bring 100 quid down with me!
im unemployed at the min so im not really playing much at the mo so might be a while until im in ready to go down!

I usually play NL10 SH and sometimes the odd 90 seater or MTT on full tilt
When you're ready to go down just give me a shout! I work just round the corner from the casino in salford so can go whenever you're ready.
At the mo I play MSS NL5 FR @ stars but I've played just about everything except from SSS lol In each variant I play too many tables, do a little better than break even over a decent sample then tilt my roll off 
It's been a vicious circle since I registered here so I'm hoping with MSS playing lots of tables is less of a hinderance to my win rate cuz I just can't help but fire up 24 and that I don't tilt. Have had to ban myself from tourneys & sng's on stars and any limit higher than nl10 cash just to keep myself in check 
haha, same sort of play as me then! yeah i've play a lot of variances in the game just cause i get bored, never mutli tables 24 though, 6 has been my highest, but truth be told i'm a slightly losing player online. Leaks must be fixed!
So im trying to up my live game, keep it to one table (obviously) and try and hone my skills live, as i've got a trip to Vegas in November coming up and i've never been and would like to not lose all my money tilting it off haha!

G casino is best place to play. £50 deepstack on a tuesday is best tourney they run weekly. Cash is running everytime i been like 1/1 up to 5/10 (sometimes). Think max sitdowns are like 250bb.
Only other casinos i been to is the grovesnor on oxford road - full of chinese nits - easy money if you can be arsed to blindsteal for hours on end. They don't fold like top pair though and think 2 pair is teh nuts so it's still a pretty easy game.
The circus on oxford road is shit - tourneys are wank and cashgames only run tues/thurs and weekends - but if you can get therre on a weekend you'll get a v soft game often with 3-4 businessmen who don't know what they are doing.
Heard good things about 235 though only ever been in pissed so didnt play poker.

lol its live. ofc they are, 1-1 and 50-1 are. 1/2 is like nl25 online though.

Had a short session yesterday at the Grosvenor Salford (Riverside). Cash was 50-1, £20min to £250max.
I sat down when the table opened. Played a few hands with the dealer (playchips obv) to pass the time.
Play is standard live loose passive. Raises when they've got something, check it down when they've missed everything.
They've got a £500 facebook freeroll coming up soon. (5th April, I can't make it to eat up the strays that would try thier luck on cash.)
Circus at Oxford road and this place are both weak games and you should end up a winner in the long run.

Ive just moved over here so still looking for work but got an interview on friday so hopefully ill get that then ill have some money to start playing at the weekends when they are probably at their softest!

All the casino's have a restaurant area. I don't know what the prices are as i've never eaten from them.
Riverside the tables are ok, the seats not so nice. But i'm not too fussy about the furniture, the atmosphere is pretty good though.
The Circus on Oxford Road, they have tournaments on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (unless they've changed it since I was last there 6 months ago), the cash games normally start when a few people get knocked out the tournament. The games depending on the people can either be really soft or really difficult to play in. (I was a regular there for a year before having to move to Liverpool). But cash games can also happen on the Friday. But they normally pick up at 11pm. But as with a City Centre Casino, there will be drunks and there will be an argument over some stupid thing once a week with out fail. Be it over straddles, or etiquette it can get out of control easily. Atmosphere isn't too great though, you will hear a lot of cheers from across the room from some loud mouth who scores big on the roulette.
Thursday is the better day to go on as it is a cheap tournament that is targetted towards students, and some have strayed onto the cash table. I got lucky one time and managed to stack a guy 3 times who had just came out the tournament for a total of £150. 4 handed.
The G Casino on Bury New Road is a nice place, decent atmosphere and plenty of tables on Fridays and Saturdays and Sundays for Cash games. There were 4 cash games going on at one point on a Friday. A 1-2 and 3x 50-1 or 1-1, the 1-2 seems to be a regular fixture though, I regularly see 3-5 guys that are always there. It seems the tables open pretty early as well (around 7pm) and they will always keep a table open for as long as people are playing. I played till 7am one time as I was on a massive heater, my £500 stack on the 50-1 table got people from 1-2 coming over once their game broke off, it was hilarious at the time, they all turned passive and would just call everytime I entered the pot.
Grosvenor Casino on Whitworth Street, they started doing tournaments there for a few weeks just before I left Manchester for good, not 100% sure if they still do it now though. But it has a game going around 9-10pm not 100% sure which days though. they have 2 tables, the one in the corner is crap, feels like its resting on 2 wooden crates, but the other one is ok. Normally is just 50-£1 that is played. Don't know why, but never quite came out a winner from here after a dozen or so visits.
There is also a Grosvenor Casino in China Town, it has one table and its normally filled with Chinese Players with the occasional stranger. There is a risk you would get bummed over as they discuss the hands in cantonese afterwards and basically share information when the hand is over. (Its not against the rules to speak in another language as long as there isnt a hand in play.) I've played there twice, and its hit or miss if there is a game at all.
Manchester 235, a Casino frequented by over paid footballers and celebreties on the odd occasion. They attempted to run 2 qualifying events for the WOSPE for a seat in an NLHE event, but never took off because not a lot of people go there to play tournament poker. Cash games normally take place on a Friday or Saturday, and the blinds can range from 50-1 to 1-3 (first time I saw that blind level as well, so I insta moved to a new table). I've only played there 3 times coming out a small winner over those 3 sessions. Atmosphere is ok, there were a lot of older players than myself. But they played with bigger stacks than the other casino's where 50% of the players would just buy in with the minimum.
Yes, I did get around a lot there, I got invited to a few home games with some of the players I met there, but only once I got to know them a lot better. But its best that you go to each casino once and play, and get a feel for it yourself.
Oh yes just remembered about the Sunday I went to Riverside, I was playing with the floor manager for a free drink (play money) along with 2 others and the dealer (5 people total) it got down to 3 people and I move in otb with A9o vs a shortstacked SB and the BB floor manager, shortstack calls, BB calls blind.
A9o vs J7o vs 84o, flop misses everyone, but I have a backdoor nut flush draw. Floor manager spikes his 8 on the turn but I retain the flush draw, but the river bricks. Thus I never get the chance to actually find out if he would keep his word or not. 
Enjoyable time for me though, I haven't played Live in over 6 months. I also walked out after stacking 3 guys for their minimum buy-ins, heads up and 3 handed that more than makes up for the £20 I spent on the roulette and on a drink, the petrol for the drive home and I still get some spare change for a Mothers day present.

As you said ill have to try out each one myself (as soon as i land a job here) and get busy! ill prob head over to whichever one has the most cash game tables to begin with, just to make sure of a game!
Id probably stay clear of china town though!
