Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could fill me in with the current status of online poker play in the US. I may be moving there, temporarily for work, and wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into so I don't get into any trouble. :P

Is it illegal to play poker online, as in a criminal offense for the player?

Is it illegal to run an online poker company that allows US players, as in a criminal offense for the site operator?

Under the poker rooms listed here on poker strategy both Cake Poker and PlayersOnly indicate that they allow US players. Are these companies working illegally, or have they someone received permits to continue to run in the US while all the other companies have moved out?

Do other poker sites block the IP addresses of US players, or is it that they do not accept registrants from the US (and will not cashout US residents)?

Any other information regarding the state of online poker in the states would be greatly appreciated.

I think the main affect of the law is in depositing/withdrawing money. So you may be ok; however, as for ISPs blocking you, that's a different matter.

Sorry I can't be of much help.

you might be interested in that post where some of your questions might have been answer. Sorry I don't know much about the legislation and although I have read quite a bit about it, all I could possibly offer would be speculations.

PlayersOnly from Vegas?
