About 3 years ago I started playing poker and kept playing for about half a year until I got tired of it. It felt like I was going nowhere with it and I got a new job that took my energy of it.
I was doing ok, had made about 2-3k$ playing on nl10. I didn't keep it in the bankroll however and I never moved up the limits. Kept withdrawing it to the beer fund.
After being abroad where casinos are legal I got a refound interest in poker. Around the 20th of june I decided to have a look if I still had some money on any of the former pokersites I had used. I knew I had at least $150 at Pacific (which was now 888). They however had stolen most of those money and it was down to like $10. Gave me tilt before even playing a hand.
On to Cake Poker then, where I found I had $22. I quickly blew up two buyins at nl4 and was down to $16. I gave up, put it all on one hand of blackjack. Luckily I doubled up and decided to go back to the poker tables. The $36 was turned into $80 within the day and I decided to move to nl10 (yes, bankroll management and all). I played a very loose aggro donkey style and probably had a hell of a good run.
I've just recently gotten PokerTracker, so bear with me for the lack of graphs for the earlier stages.
I ran the 80$ into 300$ playing nl10 and nl20 within a week, playing like 4-5 hours a day. I tried to take a shot at nl50 but was quickly shot down for 2 buyins. The luck turned and before the end of june I was down to 60$. For a short while I gave up on Cake to play on 888, where I turned the $10 left there into $40 before those funds were seized. Never mind 888 then...
From about 5th of july to 15th of july I had bad/no internet access and couldn't play.
When I returned to civilization (internet) I got back to playing and was breaking even at the cash games while luckily winning two tournaments, profits $98 and $260. Had a BR of about $450 which I managed to burn down to $350 by entering several tournaments and doing badly. I tried cash games again but no luck, kept burning it down to where I only had $300 left. Then I made the decision to move site. Best ever. The problem with Cake is the complete lack of table selection possibilities (few tables), the fact that Americans are allowed (better players) and the flat rakeback which causes the rooms to be filled with rakeback nits. Plus, you can't use a HUD there.
I moved to PokerStars 4 days ago. There I actually started to play solid again, maybe running good as well.
I've played around 5k-7k hands (rough estimate) on Pokerstars, out of which 2822 are played with PokerTracker. I feel I have played much better than I did on cake, mainly because PokerStars have less nits and more lagfish than Cake. Also, after getting that HUD up and running I suddenly found myself being able to fold against the nits where I otherwise would have shoved.

I have decided to be more systematic from now on and actually have a bit of bankroll management. Still, I will not be doing a super nitty bankroll management this time around, nor will I be afraid to move up in the limits.
Simple rule:
More than 20 buyin of next level = move up
Less than 30 buyin of previous level = move down
I will keep this as a rule for at least up to nl100.
Bankroll on PokerStars is currently $497. I could move up to NL25 now but I really prefered the deep stacked ante tables. I've always had a problem with midstacks and shortstacks and on deep tables that problem is removed. And while there might be fewer donks on deep tables, even the donks have to buy in for at least 100BB there. So, for deep nl25 I will wait until I reach 1000. I will probably give some regular nl25 tables a try before that.
And I'm not going to withdraw anything until I reach the point where I can do this for a living in a cheap country. In which case I will withdraw enough for a plane ticket and some living expenses.
