PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t50 (9 handed) Poker-Stars Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

saw flop|saw showdown

CO (t835)
Button (t1130)
SB (t2020)
BB (t1565)
Hero (t2110)
UTG+1 (t1520)
MP1 (t1620)
MP2 (t1245)
MP3 (t1455)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with T, T.
Hero raises to t150, 1 fold, MP1 calls t150, 2 folds, CO raises to t250, 3 folds, Hero calls t100, MP1 calls t100.

on this limit TT is good for a pf raise, even FR UTG. limp/call is also an option, but this disguises my hand. Normally i would reshove with the minraise from the shortstack, but it is an annoying situation, becuase i have no idea what MP1 is holding, and i'm not happy to risk my whole stack with TT. so i call for set and overpair value.

Flop: (t825) T, 6, 4 (3 players)
Hero checks, MP1 checks, CO bets t200, Hero calls t200, MP1 folds.

great flop. the shortstack does not have much left, and i'm thinking he will shove to signs of weakness. so i check my monster, so does MP1, and CO bets out 200, which is a lot less than i expected. i was thinking of making a c/r here as otherwise our opponents are given the right odds to call, but it seemed like it would be too aggressive. also, as we have top set, even if our opponents hit a flush, i still have outs with FH. so therefore i also want MP1 to call and decide to just flatcall to give him that opportunity.

Turn: (t1225) 3 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks.

blank turn. betting out after a flop c/c on a blank turn seems like it'd be too aggressive here, and CO has a not much left behind. i decided to check to allow him to make a final bluff at it here. he decides to check behind which is definitely not what i wanted.

River: (t1225) 5 (2 players)
Hero checks, CO checks.

horrible river putting an OESD on the board. i decided to c/c once again as i did not really expect to get value from worse hands on this river. CO checks behind with his missed flush draw.

Final Pot: t1225

Results in white below:
Hero has Ts Td (three of a kind, tens).
CO doesn't show.
Outcome: Hero wins t1225.

i think the mistake was in the turn, i should've bet out as the shortstack already had a great deal invested in it and would be compelled to make the call

interesting hand ^^

you wanted too much here. i do not like the flop play since there is a draw out there and you could give a free card to two players. also shortys pre 3bet indicates a strong hand (possible overpair, but two figures at least), and the board is not likely to have helped you. so i will make a small bet on this flop and wait for the push.
as played, you were lucky enough to get a bet. now shorty is totally pot commited, and also this bet was small enough to mean he does not want to scare you away but would be happy to call your push (possible overpair again).
on the turn you were just unlucky that he gave up. very bad play from the shorty imo.

i dunno... i find that in this spot, shortstack shoves in position something like 90% of the time on this limit...

with the flop play, like i said... i wanted to induce a call from the third player.

I would bet the turn. You're starting too late in extracting value.

i dont think you should induce a call here. third player can't call without a draw and you give implied odds for that. if he did hit a lower set then he will attack anyway. (maybe even with tptk)

The level in question is a bit high for me at least as far as BRM goes, but I'll make a general comment anyways.

I think the cliché "You can't win a tournament until the end" applies here, and as FishermansFriend suggested, I'd go for a straightforward approach. C-r on the flop might be a line I'd use occasionally, and this situation seems good enough since CO is so short I'd expect him to shove the flop regularly. This time CO's bet is just plain silly, and you need to raise to gain control of the pot. In my opinion MP1 has no possible hands you would WANT to induce a call from, unless the player in question is a complete moron. Otherwise MP1 must realize that the hand will go to a showdown almost 100% of the time and will only make the call with a strong draw. Any made hand the CO might want to participate with would need to be worthy of a c-r (he checked in front), and as FishermansFriend pointed out, your raise is not going to make much difference to him. If played as it was, I'd simply put CO all-in on the turn since he should be committed by now and is likely to realize he can't push you off your hand with the few chips he has left.

My thinking might be terminally tainted by playing too much turbo sngs tho, lol.

Good luck to you in the future!
