Interesting spot.

I had one approach facing these donk bet spots from weak players and recently I've been told I was wrong. I'll tell you the two views and ask a second opinion from Veriz.

What I did: I just turned my hand there in a bluff and raised him. Because on an A high, semy dry flop like that the best hand he has is a weak Ax or flush draw. Often they are betting to either scare you because you missed yourself, or to "know where they are at". Many of them will fold 100% of the time if you raise; some will never ever fold. So you just have to find out who is who and adapt.

What I was told: you can never try to make a loose/bad player fold his top pair. If he has anything else we're ahead thus the best is to just call and let him bluff again. If a club hit on the turn we still have the redraw to the nuts; if a club hits on the river he have an easier fold.

That said, if you are not sure on those spots, don't know your opponent yet and risk either winning a small pot or losing a bad one, the best play is probably to fold and wait for a better spot to get his money; the way he is playing that shouldn't be too hard. Just don't forget to make a note on him.

Raising would be just horrible here. Since no worse hand would Call anyways. Either we are turning our hand into bluff-catcher or just folding the hand. Since he is even making a pot size bet I might just consider being safer to fold the hand and wait for the next step. Since we can't really Call the turn anyways while he could easily just Bet it again.

If we are Calling the flop then what did it change on the turn?
