this might sound like a stupid question, my friend signed up and he didn't see any refer a friend thingy, to type in my name.. so im wondering..

How can i be his referer?

Hello RMB,

If your friend signed up over your referer link then he doesn't actually see that he has been refered. It is simply tracked by the system

ok cool, since i used the link which was given.. is there any way to check this?

In the TAF section there is something called "Advertised Friends" where all people that signed up over you are listed
