I couldn't connect to the database (incompatible with version) when I installed Elephant 0.37 and 0.38. I uninstalled Postgres & Elephant, but when I reinstall Elephant it says there is an up-to-date (8.3) version of Postgres already installed. When I try to create database, just says it can't connect to localhost

Just choose a new name for your db. The installation is ok, nothing to change there, just a new name.
I've tried... always gives same message:
Connection to database server lost!
Further informations:
Failed to establish a connection to '127.0.0.1'.
Then you havent reinstalled postgreSQL correctly. Please make sure that you follow exactly the manual:
Deinstalling PostgreSQL correctly
