Got talking with Matt (inlovewithamsterdam) the other night and came up with some scenarios that can hopefully be answered, and spark some conversation.

What is the more optimal play (pre/post) in these hands

1. Against a loose opener ?
2. Against a reg ?
3. After flop with either overcard/blank ?

Here are a couple examples below :

Eg #1

Poker Stars No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t10.00/t20.00 Blinds

Pre Flop: (t30) Hero is BTN with 8♠ 8♣
3 folds, MP1 raises to t40, 2 folds, Hero calls t40, 2 folds

Flop: (t110) Q♣ Q♠ 3♦ (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero

Eg #2

Poker Stars No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t15.00/t30.00 Blinds

Pre Flop: (t45) Hero is BTN with T♥ T♠
4 folds, CO raises to t90, Hero calls t90, 2 folds

Flop: (t225) J♥ 4♣ 7♥ (2 players)
CO bets t120.00, Hero

Eg #3

Poker Stars No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t15.00/t30.00 Blinds

Pre Flop: (t45) Hero is BTN with 9♣ 9♥
4 folds, CO raises to t105, Hero

Could you give tha stacksizes aswell.

With over 20bb stacks my play would be as follows:

1 hand
Raise size indicates that villain is a fish. I bet the flop to get value from random broadway combos without a Q. If raised, easy fold.

2 hand
If villain isnt superpassive, i call this c-bet and reevaluate on turn.

3 hand
Although raise size is big, without specific reads, i tend to call this and take the flop in pos.

That might help ♦

Lets consider early game (50bb+) and (20-25bb) effective stacks.

Would anyone consider 3betting an option any of these spots ?
