This was in a 6max $1 + 0.2 tournament on Poker770 with 2nd being paid $1.80 and 1st being paid $4.20. I know the river play is pretty bad on my part as it's very likely that the villain has an A but I was wondering what people's opinions are of the slowplay on the flop and turn. Do you think I should have protected my hand by raising earlier or are the chances of the A coming on the river low enough that the slowplay makes sense?
I'd noticed that the villain was likely to make large bets post-flop without having hit monsters and thought that by calling these and raising on the river I would be able to take the majority of his chips. In a previous situation similar to this I had slowplayed the flop then raised his bet on the turn, which he folded to, so thought I would gain more chips if I slowplayed right up to the river.
The all-in call on the river was me hoping he didn't have the A and playing a gamble rather than thinking it through properly and is something I know I need to avoid doing in future (going to read through some of the psychology of poker articles in the strategy section I think).
