Villain is fairly tight 14/10 and hasn't 3 bet over 25hands,, my read is that I'm either close or ahead and I have an A.. tough decision. We're far from FT but past the bubble. I've been fairly active from late position and could be perceived as being weak here.

Poker Stars, $2 Buy-in (1,000/2,000 blinds, 250 ante) No Limit Hold'em Tournament, 9 Players

CO: 28,968 (14.5 bb)
Hero (BTN): 37,066 (18.5 bb)
SB: 18,987 (9.5 bb)
BB: 120,674 (60.3 bb)
UTG+1: 57,060 (28.5 bb)
UTG+2: 19,010 (9.5 bb)
MP1: 46,734 (23.4 bb)
MP2: 25,046 (12.5 bb)
MP3: 68,785 (34.4 bb)

Preflop: Hero is BTN with A 8
4 folds, MP3 raises to 4,000, CO folds, Hero raises to 14,000, SB folds, BB raises to 44,000, MP3 folds, Hero calls 22,816 and is all-in

I would go with fold, it would be hard to lay it down, but we still got 10bb left, remember it's only 2$ so such a moves from villains is unlikely, i put him on quite wide range for 4bet, but still his range crush your A8s.

definately interesting spot. if u think mp3 opens opens a wide range in that spot 3betting shud be fine. u chose a wrong 3bet size in this hand tho. u did commit urself with ur size vs any future action in this hand including shoves from ppl behind u. the other thing is that mp3 sometimes has the top part of his range so he will 4bet or shove. and since that range crushes ur hand really bad u will lose a lot of money longterm.

i think most of the time i wud just fold this hand preflop. if u dont really want to fold preflop there r 2 other options. either u just shove it, which shud be ok, cuz u block some ax combos or u just make it like 9,5k. if u make it ~9,5k u can get out of the hand cheap in case ure faced with a 4bet or shove, doesnt matter who it is. 4k+2k+1k+9*250 ur move only needs to work like 1 out of 2 times to be breakeven. but i still see ur stack size as a big problem in this hand. thats why i prefer the fold preflop. if u had like 60k chips a small 3bet wud work really great imo.

fold pre...
with 18 bbs i hate 3b-folding and you say it yourself that the dude is tight...

if you have 30bbs and want to make a bluff 3bet ip to a more active opponent i would chose 8,8k here or something like that as a size! so you can fold and cbet cheaper!
