that wasnt the question

you cant put him on a rag A and even if he did there is a good chance you have him out kicked

more likely 7s / 8s , 78 or up/down straight draw , would he do it with A7 or A8 not sure , would think 9s+ someone would raise preflop

why does a GOOD player play so BAD then, because check-calling pre with any of those hands is bad. I can only think of AQ, but then, why not raise? And if its really AQ, maybe we should consider playing it like that? Do you get bad reversed implied if you raise AQ here?

There is a trend to play AK that way but slow playing any hands is asking for trouble

i think there are many quite good players who would play their AQ or AK this way. even some high stakes players from sngicons.com tend to limp these hands first in... i don´t think they would do it in exactly this spot though. mp, first in and blinds at 50... but it´s at least possible he did it. imo it´s more likely than limp/calling 77 or 88 with these stacks.

maybe he just isn´t that good ;). or he is only a genius at the icm push/fold stuff ... but 17% is quite something... do you have a good sample size ?

while i don't do it i actually advocated the preference for (open)limping AQ (definitely not AK) against tight players. one is for implied odds in a limped pot, and second is to reduce the reverse implied odds.

So how would Hero play TPTK with AQ in a multi-way limped pot? I guess a general answer is never possible.

As for the hand i really don't know what we can put villain on. He might be calling pocket pairs very loose preflop?

well if he is good i can only imagine 7s or 8s here.
i don't see villian limping with any ace here (AQ AK stuff raise, others fold)
limping with 66+ here is well... marginal:)
calling your raise with 1:2 potodds is not that good, but if you cbet a lot (which i assume you do) and he has the intention to push any flop that has unilelky helped you it's not that bad either.

i would say any pocket 6+ pre and 77/88 because he pushed a dangerous flop.

the play is strange though and i am really not sure about it, so this was just a possible line of thought.

ps.: keep in mind that i am a huge setminer :)

not marginal at all imo. Just spewy. Calling for setvalue in this spot is bad. I'm actually pretty sure he doesn't have a pocket.

not for set value obv.

what about aces?

with these blind i think a good regular would raise AA first in from MP.
if nick says that he doesn´t think that villain had a pocket i think we can cut his range to AK or AQ

a good regular would raise AK / AQ too.
Limp/calling with those is a lot worse than with aces or pocket imo.

mh as i said: i´ve seen good players doing it and it´s not that bad imo

i think we won´t be able to find a hand he played this way without making any misstep
