Nice post. I remember watching this hand and thinking Duhamel had committed a lot of chips in a pretty marginal spot. I think when Duhamel 3-bet the flop it opened the door for Blom to put him in a tough situation. Surprisingly Duhamel was happy to stack off. I'm not sure if he gets called by worse hands that have little equity and I don't think anything better is folding.
I don't think this play is transferable in any way. The two players have a lot of history playing each other and therefore play different then you normally would. The play by Duhamel makes sense because he knows Blom's playing style very good and gives himself a lot of Fold equity. I don't think he would choose to play the hand like he did if his opponent wasn't Blom.
