Brilliant or just really really stupidly risky? 
On the flop his donkbet didn't make sense to me. If he had AK or KQ preflop he should have raised 2/3 to build the pot and protect his hand from the FD. Even if he had a monster checkraising would have been better, since as the pfr I would most likely have made a cbet.
I think his raise was either a wierd steal attempt or a blockbet to keep his FD viable. So I reraised the pot and he folded. But afterwards it occurred to me this might have been veeeery risky ♦
