I think you forget that the mods are not just here to reply to questions but also coming from a user background like yourself and are used to just simply welcome everyone around. If they didn't have the mod avatar you would just see 3 users welcoming a newbie. I think it all depends how you approach things and what attitude you have when you look at a post. They are excited to see newcomers like yourself
