I'm not supposed to evaluate hands because I'm not grown up yet. Anyway: There is a problem with checking and calling on the turn. Too much of that makes it profitable for the big blind to call on the flop with a wide range of hands. He can simply call with hands like K6o and JTo on the flop and expect to see two cards for the price of a small bet often enough. He has at least six outs on the turn holding XX. There is a recent video by cornholio on this subject from the perspective of the big blind. I am eagerly awaiting the evaluation by the experts.

You can vary between betting and checking and you are kind of right that checking too much on the turn allows the opponent to peel a lot on the flop, seeing turn and River for just 1SB. With a read that your opponent is reasonable and not spewing around that much, i would recommend bet/fold. We give freecards but just on 6 Outs and the pot is small. That's a disadvantage but on the other hand it's also exploitable if you bet too much on the Turn. Your opponent can wait for his raise on the Turn and if he's got a hand, like a pair, he's getting angry that you don't give him the chance to raise you. You wanna be giving up with air sometimes although i would fire another bet with air against Jx T9 89 and a lot of hands he could have been just calling once with.

It pretty much depends on whether he's peeling light, whether he's been semibluffing a lot on the turn but against an unknown you should not think about balancing too much. you haven't got any history with each other and when this is the case, just ask yourself: how many worse hands he's gonna call and how many better hands he's gonna fold? You'll get to the insight that with a hand like A9, neither better hands gonna fold, nor a lot worse hands gonna call. In small pots like these, protection becomes a little irrelevant. It's worth more if he's bluffing his air instead of folding or checking it. So in spots like these you should basically check/call the Turn and check/call a good River. As played i would donk out the River because your hand pretty much looks like Ax and i guess the fish knows this as well.
