button vs blind here, his range should be very wide. unless you have specific/accurate reads that he is some sort of nit, this is very very well played :).

He wasn't tighter than average player in the table. I thought that was a resteal with 44+, AT+ sort of hand and wanted to find out if my reasoning was correct. Thank you

isn't call preflop shove flop better here ?

No. It is not better because preflop you want to maximize your chances of winning without a showdown. If you shove preflop then a hand like 88 will lose a lot of chips to you around 46% of the time and fold quite often too.

By contrast, if you call and shove the flop. He will see a king or Ace, a scary bet and will fold with the result that you don't win those chips. Additionally you have lost all the fold equity you had by shoving pre-flop...now he only folds when you are ahead and dont want him to fold.

If you are deeper stacked a call may be good if you want to avoid variance but here you cant afford to put in almost half your stack and fold after he shoves a flop which you missed. You are usually behind a pair here so if you are playing at all for such a large % of your stack it is in your interest to ensure that you get to see all 5 cards.

well if you're deeper stacked, a call might be good because he will only call a shove with aces or kings ^^;...

so yeah, here it's totally fine.
