What was you intention when 3betting him? There has to be some kind of game plan.

Two possibilities:
1: You want to 3bet/fold - that means that you are turning your hand into a bluff, because you think that your opponent will 4bet very tight and won't call your 3bet in most cases
2: You want to 3bet/call - your hand is good enough to broke in the blind battle. You 3bet for value

If you opponent is capable of 4betting light a 3bet/call is perfectly reasonable with AJ. Since he was very active and aggressive this should be the case.
If you are not willing to 3bet/call you shouldn't 3bet at all in this spot. Otherwise you are giving up your equity. AJ is to good to turn it into a bluff.
