is this also dumb? there's no other way for me to win the hand so i thought i would just turn it into a bluff. given that he is a reg, he will fold everything but a strong draw and Jx.

Hello DrDunne,

Depends a lot on the REG as well here like how he CBs, how much he folds his CBs to raise and etc. It's difficult to say, especially not even having backdoor FD it might be not that great idea. But of course it's possible but then again most likely I'd continue on the turn as well when FD completes cause he doesn't only have FD in his range.
