Grabbed by Holdem Manager
NL Holdem $2(BB) Replayer
SB ($352)
Hero ($206)
UTG ($200)
CO ($287)
BTN ($499)

Dealt to Hero A♣ 8♣

fold, fold, fold, SB raises to $6, Hero calls $4

FLOP ($12) A♥ 7♣ 2♥

SB bets $10, Hero calls $10

TURN ($32) A♥ 7♣ 2♥ 6♥

SB bets $28, Hero calls $28

RIVER ($88) A♥ 7♣ 2♥ 6♥ T♠

SB bets $55, Hero raises to $162 (AI),

villain: 24/20
2 AF
66% flop, 58% turn, 57% river
2.2k hands

Villain is one of the best regs of the limit, and also crushes midstakes according to PTR. I had extrapolated from a number of hands against him that he is good thinking player, capable of making good folds. He also knows how to valuebet and bluff good.

My initial plan here OTT was to calldown as I thought that he'd be capable of going for 3 barrels as a bluff here.

But now that his bet is somewhat on the smaller side it looks a lot to me that he does not have the flush. So then he is probably going for a thin valuebet with something worse and my hand is obv no good, so do you like the shove here to rep the flush?

Interesting.. would prefer it with a heart for some blockers

I think I am concerned with the Turn sizing which was close to pot. Some people may also bet smaller on River to induce bluff shoves with sets

your range is pretty capped at AJ (for top pairs) or flushes. Sets may raise Flop some of the time and maybe calldown given that flush completed and raising is overrepping.

Really, really hate this line.

He is really polarised between very good hands that won't fold and random air that we beat, I actually think he has a pretty good hand here and doesn't look like a common bluff line so would be happy just giving up and making a note that he r. c/c. donked HU and perhaps use it for future extraction.

Define very good hands.

Don't you think we could get him hands like 2pair here, or even sets? I mean, I would most likely fold anything but a flush here since I wouldn't expect villain to raise worse for value, and I sooo rarely see people bluffraise river in this spot. I would at least want some sort of reads or anything if I would be going to call off a shove here "light", but then I might be too nitty in these spots, I dunno...

What are your thoughts on this? What would be the bottom of your calling range in this spot?

Hello axelphoney,

With a flushdraw on the turn we would have still a Call and reevaluate the further actions and nor I don't even mind such a play as you did basically. Although what would me play differently is his turn sizing and as mbml said his range is towards more capped range there than pure air. Even regs tend to have the same mistake over and over again that they are willing to Bet stronger once they hit -> so I'd be planning to fold the turn instead there without good assumptions.

Those kind of notes are also good to take once you see their hands, for example here saw a flush then a perfect spot to abuse it in the future whilst I assume you going to see him again.

Best Regards.

Yeah, I am with you that folding turn may just be the best option.

But what about the shove otr??

Any thoughts on the last comment that I made?

Yeah, the line should work out decent amount of time, though I doubt that it's going to work out in those specific spots. Just cause he bets a bit smaller doesn't really mean that he is willing not to do that with flush. For him it's also towards you having a weaker hand and he wants to maximize his value from you by betting a bit smaller.

Though then again we have to ask what's the reason for floating the turn? The turn main idea should be also that we are planning to fight back in specific spots as we did there.
