I've started playing poker when I've got my free bankroll at PP. At the same time I've deposited some money to Full tilt and started playing $1 SNG. My bankroll didn't last long. Then I started playing SNG at pokerstars and sometimes played tournaments. I managed to win 3rd place on $1 tournament and shortly after that 1st in $4.5 180SNG. At that point my bankroll was around $800. Slowly it dissapeared trying beat those $4.5 180 SNGs. Then I deposited some money to PP again and started playing $5 SNGs. My ROI was around 14%. Combining with $6 MTTs I've managed to build my bankroll to $1000. Started playing $10 SNGs. All went wrong. Moved down to $5 SNG but still no joy. My bankroll was crippled to $700. I stopped playing poker for about a month.
Now I decided to try playing cash. I never liked it. So for a last 3 weeks I was just trying different tactics and strategies. I'm playing FR $10 NLTH, 4 tables at the time. I use HM2 as a HUD and a NoteCaddy soft to make notes. I've played over 7000 hands so far.

One year ago I've started working as a poker dealer in local casino. Now I'm cardroom supervisor. So I'm into poker pretty much 24/7.

My short term goals:
*improve my postflop game (read all silver articles for NL BSS)
*reach gold rank
*post some interesting hands here after every session
*think more short term goals ;)

Shit, I'm too lazy to write my blog... Anyway... During September I have managed to play just over 10k hands. And it looked like this

Up and down up and down like a roller coaster... Hopefully I will start climbing up constantly. In October I had 8 sessions so far and 7 of them were profitable (over 3,5k hands total).
Todays session

it's a shove or fold spot. I probably shove cos we are way ahead of MP's stacking off range and MP2 should be folding a lot of the time as well (why would he not 3bet AA/KK? unless the fish folds a lot to 3bets or spews a lot)

I would like to note, that fish is AI pre with a short $2.50 stack...

Hi there! :f_cool:

How you doing lately?

Wohooo I have one subscriber! Thanks man. I'm on a downswing again. So no poker for couple of days. Just analysis of the leaks and reading new articles...

I have some trouble playing against players who are actualy playing shortstacked. Another problem is when I'm trying to steal blinds or defend blinds. I run into hight pocket pairs too often. How to polarize my steal hand range? How to find out when you are beaten when the ranges are so wide? And of course I bluff too much... :(

This is what I call downswing :f_eek:

1. I have some trouble playing against players who are actualy playing shortstacked.
2. Another problem is when I'm trying to steal blinds or defend blinds. I run into high pocket pairs too often.

1. What do you mean?

2. Quote about stealing:

In general, you want to focus on the big blind, and in particular on two statistics: 'Fold big blind to Steal' and 'Fold to F Cbet'. If 'Fold big blind to Steal' is less than 60%, or 'Fold to F Cbet' is less than 50%, or both, you're probably up against an opponent who at least has the concept of blind defense in place, and you'll need to tighten your range when open-raising from the cutoff or button.

Hope this helps! :f_wink:

Btw, "I run into high pocket pairs too often"- what is considered too often and what is normal?

Thanks for your reply Gigenieks.
1. I mean their 3bet/shove range is much wider and very often I dont know where I am. Is it just a small pair (in which case they are ahead of my strong ace) or is it a strong ace (but weaker than mine) or maybe I'm running into monster? If I just flat call pre they usually follow with a shove on the flop. If I bet first, they shove anyway and most of the time I dont know where I am...

2. Thats useful thanks. I'll have a look to my HUD settings and will make adjustments if needed. Usually I only consider Tot steal and Tot resteal...

3. This means I'm not folding often enough when I'm beaten and finish on the showdown facing bullets...

And thanks for your reply...

Reply

1. Fair enough, I sometimes have the same "problem"..
Basically this is how I conclude if they are playing premium hands or poor hands --->

1) Find out how many tables the opponent is playing. Using search. If they've used 'hide from search' function I just check manually all tables (no hiding from me lol :f_biggrin: ).

2) I always take notes after my sessions on hands which I taged while playing. For example,
[P]
AI = ATo (30bb)
3B = KK, AJo, JTo
etc

So add these things together and you're starting to get an idea of his range. Of course, check his '3bet preflop' statistic in your HUD.

check this thread for more info

So basically: Tables + notes + 3bet Preflop stat + general rule of range you should call (provided link above) --- should give you some ideas how to counter their strategy. Does this help?

Thanks , thats really useful. And by the way there is an article in gold section of BS strategy ''Opponent profiles: The Short Stack''. Woohooo! And its probably good idea to read Short stack strategy articles myself...

Ok, played 4 hours today (just over 1.2k hands). Played 6 tables at one point (usually I play 4). Ended 2.6 BI up. Could finish better, but in general I'm happy with my play today. I've found that the most effective and profitable way to play against short stacked players is to play exactly by Short Stack Strategy. You just have to be a little bit tighter than they are.

Today I've red these articles:
*How to Play Strong Draws
*Opponent Profiles: The Short Stack
*Mathematics of Poker: Implied Pot Odds
*What is the Short Stack Strategy?
*How to Play Before the Flop (Short stack strategy)
*How to Play After the Flop (Short stack strategy)
